Please Help! Locked Out!

I thought this info may help someone.
The battery died in my son's Jeep. This caused the alarm system to lock up the entire thing. Even the door key would not work (without power).

Dealer was no help. Wanted to tow jeep in and "have a look".

Neighborhood mechanic was able to "trick starter", by going underneath Jeep with jumper cables. Got enough power to open driver door. Then he popped hood and jumped battery. Took about five minutes to get Jeep open and started.

He also mentioned a memory device that can be inserted into cigarette lighter. It is supposed to store computer info., incase of power failure (which may cause system to shut down).

Thanks for answering previous post shortbus.

I would ask him about it, rather then running the risk of messing it up worse than it is. Since it is his vehicle he most likely will be able to help you get the doors unlocked w/o spending money on a locksmith. I know If it was my car I would appreciate knowing something is wrong with it. Tell him and see what he says, then you two can work out where to have it repaired at, he could also have an aftermarket alarm system on it and the dealer won't have any clue what to do with it.

Good luck
