I have this annoying whining noise in my Deville and it is getting louder with each week. My husband had changed the power steering pump thinking it was the problem, but is has not resolved the issue.

It is there when idling as gets louder with acceleration and realling loud when a/c is used.

Any help out there?

thank you

Perhaps a bad bearing on one of the accessories on the engine, (alternator, waterpump etc)
My first guess would be the idler pully wheel. Its the one on the spring loaded arm that maintains tension on the 'fanbelt'.

Thank you for your response. The pully belts were checked and changed. A rebuilt power steering pump was put in and did not resolve the problem. I am thinking i will have to make the expense for a new power steering pump instead.

Hi, I have a 94 deville and I had that same problem. Whinning when accelerating and idling, it was really annoying. but don't waste anymore money. I changed water pump, pulleys, power steering pump and alternater thinking it was one of those components, but after spending almost thousand dollars in repairs it was the ac compressor. the clutch had went bad and caused the whinning and I thought of it when I cut on the ac, it got louder. bought a new compresser for about 250 and it stopped the noise, i was so elated. I hope this will solve your problem and save you money.

be sure and see if the whine is coming when the AC is on. You mentioned that the belts were checked and replaced, but no mention of the actual pulleys being checked or replaced. the idler pully whines on most cars when they get some mileage on them.
