My 94 jeep will not go into overdrive. The transmission shifts smoothly thru all three gears without any problems. It makes no diffrence whether the tranny is hot or cold. The indicator light can be turned off and on without having any affect. What are the possible problems??

Hydro,
I'm having the same problem as you. Did you ever get it fixed and if so what was the problem?

Hey i know this is going to sound strange but it will not hurt your transmission.Pour 1 pint of power steering fluid into your access tube the one were you add trans fluid into the power steering fluid will help swell the rear seals on the transmission and should make it shift ok for a long time when it starts acting up just add some more 1 pint try to do it so that it dosent over fill you transmission if you can.if its a little over i dont think it will hurt anything.
like i say even if it dosent fix your trouble it wont hurt anything ....I had the same trouble with my 94 and tryed it after being told about the fix and now it changes like new , hope this helps out.
P.S might be good to have some one check out the over-drive switch first if its shown to be good then try the other fix.my switch was ok

Yep,
You're right....does sound kinda strange.
This worked for you? My tranny shifts ok through all 3 gears but won't go into overdrive. The OD switch on the instrument panel does not light up unless I press it. It has no effect on the way the overdrive works though. I am suspecting the overdrive solenoid.....but am not sure.

thats an easy fix. had the same problem in my 95 GC. the solution is in the tcm(transmission control module). i bypassed the relay inside the tcm just by simply putting a jumper. i have had no more problems since i did that ( thats about 5 weeks ). give it a try the tcm is located under the dash by the operators feat to the left upper side.

Scalde,
I actually have a 95 GC. I had it put on a computer today and it showed no trouble codes.
I'll see if I can find the tcm and give your suggestion a try.
Where did you run the jumper from and to?
Thanks
