1968 Chevy 2 Nova

Whats up Guys !!,

I found a 1968 Nova for Sale. It has about 105,000 miles on it. Cam was replaced, new intake, new carb, new vavle cover, brakes work great. Im not to worried about the engine, but more about the transmission. I meen with 105,000 miles on the tranny. He wants 4,000 for it. I wanted to see what you guys think about it. Beucase Im not to sure what I should do. What happens if the Tranny fails on me, how much is a new tranny. The tranny has 2 gears and has Powerglide. Engine is a 250 Straight 6.

buy the car if the tranny goes out it's not that much to have it rebuilt or if you put a small block in it you'll want to use a better tranny

I found a 72 2 door green on green with the factory 350, ac, all the options that you could get. The car was mint. The guy wanted 6k$ for it but I didnt have the money then. I hate myself for not buying it.

Well I think im going to buy it, Im still worried about the tranny, but it seems like a strong tranny, didnt seem like anything was funny about it when I test drove it.

Hey Man I Just Swapt A Powerglide For A Th350 And It Feels So Much Better. The Th350 Cost $295 Bcuz I Took It Off And Took It To The Shop. I Also Had To Shorten & Balance The Drive Shaft And That Cost $90. If You Shop Around You Can Probably Get The Same Deal If Not Your Pg Is Going To Cost About $300 If You Take It Out.

sounds like a good price if the body/interior are in good shape. I'd not worry about the trans; as mentioned you'd probably enjoy a TH350 with 3 speeds as opposed to a 'glide unless the car has some serious power or a lot of drag racing in it's future. Normally you can use the same transmission crossmember, mount and driveshaft b/c they share the same case length, and they don't cost a lot to swap/replace. Sounds like a good find, and a primo candidate for a V8!

Im planning on putting a 350 in it, with a 400 turbo, thing is I dont even know if that would work. Would I need a better tranny and also what kind of HP would I be putting out?

depends on the level you build the motor up to. I'd use a TH350 instead of a 400 unless you plan on using a big block V8. The turbo 400's weigh more and use more hp to drive. I have a TH350 behind a stroker 383 that puts 373 rwhp/485 rwtq to the wheels and it's seen 4 years without a whimper. You can easily build 400 hp from a 350 if done right.
