just bought a 1994 GC, and the alarm keeps goping off erraticly, and unsuspecting , so, after research here , i installed a new battery , in case the old one s voltage drop was causing the problem, changed the distributer coil, incase the voltage was erratic, tried pulling the fuses as they apply.....none worked , untill i found the hood alarm sensor was sticking and needing replacement @ "$125.00" dealer ....so I just disconected the wire going to it , don t need an alarm switch under the hood that can only be opened from inside the car anyway..havn t heard it go off yet , could I have finally found the "cure " as it applies to my car anyway , now if I can find why my trans has a slip and hard shift in first gear , the trans was overhauled a week ago , so I suspect it s temperature , speed electronics , the problem is not as severe as before I had the overhaul, any suggestions ??

I have the same vehicle and it has just started doing the same thing.
The alarm, that is.
Thanks. I will give it a try as well

Same Jeep (94 GC), same problem--alarm activates for no reason. Where is the hood sensor so I can try the same fix? Thnx

mine was located just behind the right headlight , up on the fender well in the engine compartment , I checked the operation of the button that depresses when the hood closes and found it stuck at times , so I just pulled the pig tail electrical connection at the base of the sensor , hasn t gone off since , and I am delighted with that

Probably the problem with mine since It was involved in a minor fender bender on that corner. I"ll have a look in the next day or two.
Thanks

FYI, the hood alarm was definitely my problem--unplugged the sensor and problem went away! Many, many thanks!!!

$125.00? Yikes. Isn't it just a standard pin switch?

My 94 jeep was haunted for 4 months as far as I was concerned. My alarm would do the same as described above, my dash lights would go on and off randomly, headlights would turn on but not off sometimes. When the car was in park and turned off, the running lights would turn themselves on. Then, about 2 months ago, it all stopped and has not been a problem since. I have no idea what was going on, but i share the frustration.
