2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee HVAC

My 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee has the automatic dual control heating and a/c. The passenger side a/c doesn't seem to be cooling. The dealer suggests replacing the evaporator for over $1000. The left side works fine and both sides use the same evaporator. Could it be the Automatic Temperature Control assembly? or one of the vent flaps not working properly? or the temperature sensor for left and right side? I'm not sure how this system operates and I haven't been able to find a reasonably priced manual. Any ideas?

I would not trust the dealer on this one, it sounds like they are trying to pull one over on you. There is a acuator door inside your vents that switches from A/C to heat with the dual climate control. It sounds like the door is stripped out (which is common) or the motor that turns the door isn't working. Have the exact same problem on my 99 but haven;t fixed it yet since the drivers side works. (about $600 at the dealer to fix). If the AC is working on the driver side I don't see how it could be the evaporator.

by not cooling are you saying that air is blowing but it is not heated nor cooled? or is there no air? by passenger side do you mean back seat?

If you figure this one out, please post fix. My 99 JGC with same dual IR control for HVAC puts out cold AC air on left and center vents and full hot air on two passenger side vents regardless of settings. Am suspecting control panel malfunction, but am hoping to get a steer before resorting to going to lousy dealer.
