Turbo or super?lucamabob 07-25-2004, 11:59 AM I own a 1998 Hinda civic has been modded extensivly in terms of looks, but now im looking for some performance. I already have a nitrous system in it and a new exhaust. My now im looking for either a turbocharger or supercharger. Which one is better? B1SiR6A 07-25-2004, 12:17 PM ...Search homie... Takumi8187 07-25-2004, 01:32 PM Turbo it, more HP for the same ammount of boost. Beastiek2 07-25-2004, 03:37 PM Post some pics of your car. Turbo is alot of upkeep as apposed to a charger exman98 07-25-2004, 06:37 PM turbo's will also have some lag where as the charger doesnt. i dont have any experiance with either but i would go with the charger Ace$nyper 07-25-2004, 07:02 PM fucking worst thread ever good job thanks to you the pope died. YOU MURDERER! exman98 07-25-2004, 09:25 PM oopppsss MexSiR 07-25-2004, 09:45 PM Go Super Duper Always works :) NerveAgent 07-25-2004, 09:50 PM TURfuckinBO 22ek9 07-26-2004, 01:28 AM since you have a 1998 and you diddnt say you had a swap. Then you have a SoHC motor. SO assuming that...I'd say supercharger unless you are willing to spend money on your internals. I say this because a turbo kit alone will only get you HP figures a little above stock b16s. But a JR supercharger with the high boost pully will work with stock internals and give you power all the way through. plus it's less matinence and has a warrenty. If you have a dry nitrous system i don't think it will work with a turbo. I dunno bout s. charger. Either way but especially for turbo, since you have a car with little torque get 15 or 16" rims. But if you want looks go for the turbo cause f. mount intercoolers look nice and there is nothing nicer than the sound of a blow off valve. but a vortec s. charger or similar ones you can have both too so i dunno. Id go with a JR supercharger for your car eckoman_pdx 07-26-2004, 02:49 AM Turbo it, and dump the NOS once your on boost. The modern ball-barring turbo's really don't have much lag. It's commen misconception that ALL TURBOS HAVEBAD LAG. A ball-bearing turbo will spool up 800-1000 rpm quicker than the equivelent standard. Also, you by the proper sized turbo for the app. If you want realitivly low boost like 8psi, you won't need as much airflow for the power gains as if you are running high boost. This means you'll buy a turbo with a smaller a/r housing and smaller turbine. The small ball-bearing turbos have almost no lag. Assuming his motors not built, he's not going to run more than 8psi anyway. That being said, he's not going to buy a huge ass turbo. A nice GT28 Garrett ball bearing turbo will do mnore than fine, and there will be very mininmal turbo lag, if any, noticable. These smaller ball-bearing turbos spool up quickly, so the "turbo lag, go super" arguement is rather moot today. Furthermore, superchargers cause parasitc HP loss. It takes power to make power. The super is belt drivin off the crank, so it has to rob a little engine power to make power, same as how the a/c fan and belts cause parastic HP loss. A turbo makes power off of engine waste, taking and robbing nothing to compress the air and create power. It simply takes waste and uses to create more power. Super and turbo are both forced induction, and on a stock motor you should run above 8psi in most cases (the b18b1 can run up to 12psi if tuned right, etc). That being said, he's not going to have to build the internals to turbo it, unless he's running more than 8psi. Same as a supercharge, he doesn't have to build the internals unless he runs more than 8psi. Also, if you are ever drivin 2 of the same cars with the same motors, one with a turbo on low boost and the other with a JR super on low boost, you'll find the turbo to be much quicker. If you get a supercharger and want to run anything more than the 4-5psi it comes with, you'll need to get an intercooler. Lots of superchargers run air to water intercoolers. These are not inlcuded in the JR supercharge kit. You'll also need to buy their fuel comptur, etc, if you want o up the boost, besides just high boost pullies. Otherwise you'll run into fuel deilivery problems. Now, at that point you'll need a slightly bigger set of injectors if your runnign anything above the 4.5psi it comes set to run at. Theres mopre $$ to add to the price. Basically, a turbo kit costs more becuase it is ment to RUN @ 8psi or so usually, so they tned to come with all this. The JR SUpercharger is sold to just bolt on and run @ 4.5psi, give or take, and therefor doesn't need these to run. However, this gives very minimal power gains. You'll really want a little more out of it, and for that you havce to buy all the other stuff. Suddenly, the cost is eqaul to or greater than a turbo kit, don't let the numbers fool you. Turbo it up with a small ball bearing turbo like the Garrett GT28, the lag will be almost non-existence, and you should be able to run 8psi on stock internals, which will be more than sufficent for you, and certianly more than you'll run with a super (which in the end eqauls more power too). cas4067 07-26-2004, 09:04 AM Well if you are intersted I had a complete turbo kit for sale on ebay that would bolt right on your car. It had sold but the ass hole never payed me so if you interested let me know... if go to this link you can see the listing http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7910048723&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMESO%3AIT vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
