I have a loud rattling noise in my rear hatch or tailgate. It appears to be coming from the top hatch with the window part. I have tried padding it and tightning bolts to no avail. Help it is driving me nuts. It is a 94 blazer with 170000 miles on it. Thanks.

I dunno if its full size or small, but i'd check the bulb in your brake light. It may be coming loose. Or the actual unit. Good luck

Try wrapping the metal "tubing" that latches onto the lock on the window itself with some electrical tape. Does it only rattle when you hit a bump in the road??

Do you have a tailgate-mount spare tire?

NO, I think it might be in the tailgate lifters. anyone had them to make noise.

I had the same rattling noise on my 91 S10 Blazer and replaced the window hinges, window latch, lock latch on tailgate and noise was still present. I then noticed that the tailgate hinges (on bottom of tailgate near bumper) were kind of dry. I sprayed a generous amount STP Silicone spray on the hinges and the noise went away.
I now spray the hinges once every 2 weeks for good measure.

I have same problem. Frequent use of grease / other lub on hatch latch keeps it calmed down.

The wrapping of electrical tape around the window clasp hoop sounds like a good idea.

These noises are common with a first gen s10 blazer.

Has anyone attempted to adjust the rear window?

Adjustment of the latches for the tailgate determine how snug the window will be. If the gate is in to far, the window will not latch.

The hinges wear and the keeper wears also, about $65 US bucks at the dealer gets you these parts. After installation, you should adjust the gate so that the window closes tight and compresses the rubber gasket some.

Worn bushings or pins or even the keeper for the spare tire carrier will give a different noise than the window.

Yes, the hinges do wear but an adjustment will compensate for a small amount of wear, if not, change the pins. Do you really want to oil every so many days?

If the gate hinges are worn too bad, it will cause the tire carrier bushings or pins to have accelerated wear also.

Try driving the vehicle with only the window popped open, see what kind of noises there are, or....

Remove the tire carrier, it is only 2 E clips and the pins. Drive the vehicle and see what kind of noises there are.

Tape and grease are only stop gap methods, do a little diagnoses and correct it, you will happy with the results.
