Acceleration Lull/Response question

Hey dudes, Cheez Wizard here. I've a '99 3.5L GX w/ 87k.

I've only had my car for 4 months or so, that's why I post every time I notice something. Forgive the Cheez Wizard for this, won't you?

This question is regarding the
responsiveness of the gas pedal/engine.

In first gear, it will take-off into second (over 3k rpm if hit hard).

Once at a cruising speed of say, 35-50 on local streets, the acceleration hits a lull.

The accelerator won't respond if pressed down gradually. I'll have to press significantly, kick the RPMs up over 3k and hear the engine revv to increase speed (by more than I want to).

It doesn't just increase gently, gradually, as I think it should.

Don't get CW wrong. I drove a 4 cylinder for 10 years before buying the Olds. Needless to say, I dig the power.

I jsut like to be able to slowly increase speed. My Olds isn't doing that. I have to crank the engine up to increase speed, and then , immediately step off the gas to drop down to the speed I intended.

Just checking if other owners have this gas pedal issue.

Check your air filter and make sure that it isn't clogged. My wifes intrigue was sensitive to a dirty filter and go as far as stalling under throttle until it was changed but hers was a 3.8.
