I can't figure this out...

runs fine when a temp is 85 or lower. today it was 90+, drove to pick up my kids from daycare, power seemed to be weak, temp guage was reading a bit hotter than normal but not much hotter than usual.

I shut the car off, went in for 5 minutes and came back. Started car, ran for a few seconds and while backing out it just quits. Temp guage was higher then when I shut it off, but wasn't in red... I could do this repeatedly start it, runs for a few seconds then stalls out.

I then got out and walked my kids to nearest food place and had dinner, came back and tried it about 20 minutes later, temp was lower now but still had problem until I turned heat on and tried it a few times. It ran eventually but turned the heat on full blast. I got to my neighborhood and while rolling the car quit and a had to pull over and walk home. When I slowed down it just died.

this problem has caused me many headaches, I can't trust this vehicle at all due to this problem.

For a history on this, its been happening since I had it and its been in for service on it a few times, did a number of things, radiator, some relay I think? seemed fine for a while, it would run ok at temps it would normally quit on, seems like the problem only happens now when its really hot, not just really warm outside. It never happens during the winter, only on hot summer days.

I have searched and found a few posts but no solutions, I must be missing it if its here.

anyone know this one? thanks in advance!

I have a very similar problem. If you find out what it is, let me know. Good luck!

I am no mavin, but it almost sounds like 1) Vapor Lock; or 2) An air leak in the fuel system compromising fuel pressure; 3) Faulty fuel pump...

my mechanic says he thinks the problem is solved. Not sure about that statement but he definitely found a problem. This is what he did.

I requested him to :
check brakes
fix the cat. converter (it was rattling inside)
fix the temp / stall problem

a few days before I brought it in, it was really acting bad, I just about didn't make it to the shop, bogging down, really running rough, no power, bad gas milage.

anyway, it took a few days but he finally was able to work on it, said he found a very small 'internal?' leak in the fuel line which was causing the obvious problems, also fixed the cat converter, when he took it off a lot of internal stuff fell out, he kinda helped it along a bit and put it back on.

in any event it runs very different (well) and I am pleased. Its a bit more loud overall but OK, no hideous rattle noise anymore. The outside temp hasn't been near 90 yet so I am still hesitant to say its fixed.

buy my guy said I saved many hundred dollars not replacing the feul pump.

this all cost me about 250, my mechanic is gold. He actually thinks about stuff before replacing everything.

I hope this helps someone.

you should replace the internal line kit called the "nut kit" inside the upper plenum.

Also, the CPI injector should also be leaking.

Here is my experience on the problem.
