need some help.....I am building a street/strip 72 nova and have a question about swapping trannies. I am keeping the 250 six banger in right now and will build the engine last. I have already installed a 9" and want to do tranny next. Will a th350 or th400 bolt right up to the 250 with out any mods, it has a glide? I know that if i go with the 400 I will need a different crossmember but what other mods will have to be made in regards to driveshaft. I think the th350 with 6" tailshaft is the same length as a glide but I could be wrong. I am leaning in the direction of a TCI competion 400 with a brake to handle whatever I decide to do with the engine. thanx in advance.

With the turbo 400 you will have to shorten the driveshaft. The short shaft 350 is the same length as the glide. What size motor sre you going to build? Turbo 350 is fine behind small blocks.

thanx for the posts...I am building a 406 with AFR 210's and a comp XE288HR stick. I am leaning towards a well built th350, any opinions on the coan competition reverse manual with brake? One problem I have is that I am currently in California and the nova has to be driven back to Canada where it will be finished (250 works great for the ride home). I spoke with a couple of tranny shops and they stated it was ok to drive the competition tranny with a good cooler on a trip such as that and actually beneficial for break-in, what do you all think?.

i dont think it would hurt it at all.probally be good for it easy miles. id drive it a while before you go. on a trip is a bad time to find a problem or leak.

i agree with kansas a long trip with a new tranny can be a nightmare, if something goes wrong your in lot of trouble. i would put about 500 miles on tranny ( easy miles ) before the long haul

I've got a 74' Nova 350, pushing 400-425 horses, I rebuilt a 350 tranny with the intentions of really doggin it. You definitely need a cooler, however, I've seen better runs and pulls with a TH400 behind a 350 witha stall convertor to match your horses. However, to each his own and what you want

What about a 454 block with a 400 turbo tranny?
