Got an aftermarket muffler - a questionX-TeNDeR 07-17-2004, 03:50 PM Ok so i got an aftermarket "custom-made" muffler with a BIG nice exit :smokin: , like 3" or so... Now, i have a '92 Scort (Euro v.) 1600 clx man', i just wanna know if the muffler will make a nice deep sound on my car, and also if the size of the muffler itself is a real factor in that, cause the one i got is pretty short, like 30cm in length. Thanx for any comment. zx2srdotnet 07-17-2004, 05:53 PM size, amount of retriction and baffle all change the sound b18lsvtec 07-19-2004, 10:31 AM Yeah all exhausts will have somewhat of a different sound. One thing I will tell you that will help you increase your sound is if you get a shop to upgrade your stock exhaust piping to maybe 1/4"-1/2" bigger. You can also try either keeping it legal and getting a high-flow catalytic converter, or you can cut the Cat and straight pipe it, for a louder sound. Hope this info helped =D Jet-Lee 07-19-2004, 11:02 AM If he cuts out his Cat completely, it can interfere with his 2nd O2 sensor, and cause his computer to act up. b18lsvtec 07-19-2004, 09:30 PM Thanks for pointing that out, I remember when my friend was looking into it he was a little weary he might screw something up. I know its been done, but I personally think the sound isnt as good as a full custom exhaust, that way its legal and no risk of screwing things up. I am going to estimate a 2 1/4" piping would be a good size for a nice tone and maybe add an extra pony or two =) If i remember correctly CTA motorsports has high flow cats you can upgrade too. I think they also have a magnaflow exhaust system for the escort as well. Let us know what you decide on. zx2srdotnet 07-20-2004, 12:25 AM yeah for the sohc 2.0 i'd only go to a 2 1/4 pipe vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
