Intermittant drivebelt squeek

91 Metro: Replaced alternator with a reman unit. Both drivebelts are replaced and reinstalled. I have a squeek or a squeal that increases as engine RPM does. Belt dressing did not help. Alternator performs fine. Possibly A/C or water pump? This DID NOT happen until I replaced the alternator and the alternator drivebelt (A/C belt was replaced about a month ago, and this squeal was not present). Ideas?

Here's a different way of looking at a solution.
Your belts are probably the right length but do the sides match up with the angle of the pulleys??
Think about it like this, the belts are being pulled through the pulley, if the angle does not match up then the belt is being squeezed as is passed into the pulley possibly causing a squeel.

Hey, its just a thought.

Problem solved. I didn't have the belt tight enough. Chilton's calls for 1/2 inch play in the belt. Aparently 1/4 is more accurate.
