caravan startnfmccann 07-16-2004, 01:21 PM 97 Caravan has intermittent start. Turn ignition switch and only get a "click" and sounds of a weak battery. Strong headlights and regular indications though of all electrical components. Replaced battery as a good place to begin. Cycling of ignition switch seems to eventually get a good strong rotation and subsequent start... Have read many threads of ignition switch failing or starter solonoid contacts failing or even posible loose wiring/short around the starter...has anyone narrowed this down further??? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- :banghead: capoeta 07-16-2004, 02:24 PM have you had your started tested? cj99 07-16-2004, 06:48 PM I agree. Had the same problem with my 97. Had starter changed and good as new. nfmccann 07-17-2004, 03:19 PM The mechanic that replaced the battery says he checked it and it was "ok". In other words he was not able to duplicate the problem. I am about to change the plunger and contacts for a $20 shot in the dark...will that be enough or should I replace the whole starter for $120+??? Thanks for the reply. janandkyle 07-17-2004, 07:29 PM cant you have the starter rebuilt? i had mine rebuilt for our '91 and it only cost $40.00 still working after about a year automps 10-22-2004, 12:00 AM There are alot of bolts that have to be removed The dash board can be pulled back after that . vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
