Oil pan gasket replacement?e_a_olson 07-14-2004, 01:05 PM How easy is an oil pan gasket replacement? What are the steps involved? Drain the engine, drop the pan, clean the pan and block, replace the gasket? sierrap615 07-14-2004, 01:16 PM yikes, i looking in my hanyes and its much more than that. buy a hanyes manual if you are going to do this. you need to remove the downpipe, crank pulley, engine mount, and expose the flywheel e_a_olson 07-14-2004, 02:19 PM Sounds like fun. How much was the Haynes? emailer33 07-14-2004, 04:37 PM sierrap615 07-14-2004, 11:30 PM check autozone or other part stores, i think mine was 17.99 e_a_olson 07-16-2004, 10:42 AM I thought I lost my manual, but I found it last night. What do I need to do to the engine mount? It sounds like I have to pry it out of the way or something. What tools do I need to complete this job? I've just got a ratchet set, a torque wrench, a hydraulic floor jack, and 4 jack stands. emailer33 07-16-2004, 04:51 PM just read the manual, it will tell you all the steps and you can decide. e_a_olson 07-17-2004, 09:52 AM RTFM, thanks for the advice. bobenhotep 07-17-2004, 02:44 PM ive taken the oil pan off of a 94 sl1. you have to take off all kinds of stuff, and turn the oil pan just right to get it out from under the car. i didnt use regular rtv, but used the gray stuff from the saturn place. there is more to it than the book says... e_a_olson 07-20-2004, 09:41 AM Ok, what is 'regular rtv', and do you know what steps were not listed in the manual. This info would be most helpful. Thanks. sierrap615 07-21-2004, 01:17 AM RTV = Room Temperature Vulcanization, or basicly, gasket in a tube. saturn sells it, or you can pick it up at any auto store. i use Permatex Ultra Black Gasket Maker (PN 598B or 598BR) be sure you get the sensor safe stuff. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
