I can't get my speedometer working. Its apart of a cluster, has the cable hooked to the tranny but I can't see if its hooked up to the cluster itself. My guess is it isn't. Anyone with a 74 nova knows how hard it is to get te dash out. Mine doesn't have a wheel tilt. can anyone help me? Email at njr11288@comcast.net. Thanks.

Easiest way to do it (I did it twice) is to remove the bolts holding the steering column up (they're right there under the dash). Then drop the column as far as it will got and you can access the speedo assembly. You may have to sit upside down in the driver's seat to really see anything, though.

I've replaced the speedometer cable all together. Its definently hookedup to the cluster and tranny. Does it matter if the dash is still ripped apart? any fuses? Thanks.

nope, no fuses or anything. It's a purely mechanical speedometer. If you twist the end of the cable (not the housing) with your fingers, you should see the needle bounce. If it doesn't, you may have to replace it. Lucky thing is, you can put a speedo from at least 72-74 in it. Maybe more years, not sure off the top of my head. I used one from a 72 when I had to replace mine.

Happy Holidays,
Mike

OK now that thatworked, I think i have a bigger problem. That purple gear picie that "connects" to the other end of the speedometer cable, to the tranny. It fell into the tranny! Whats the best way to fish itout?Thanks..

not sure about that one. Maybe you could ask in the general forum. More people would see the questions.

Good luck!
