RPM 3100 at 70mphfazlee 07-14-2004, 01:16 AM Hi , Anyone can help me on this. I got Galant ES 1997 last couples of week. At idle, the rpm is 800, when I drive about 65 to 70mph, the rpm is a little bit high about 3100. ( it feel a little bit high, i guess) Anybody can help me diognostic this problem, or it is normal thing. thanks Scooby2204 07-14-2004, 07:14 AM naaa dude your rpms are just fine i got a 95 model and it idles around 1000 but its normal unless your gears arent shifting if your crusing at 65 70 and say u punch it to pass another car or sumthin and your passing gear dosent kick in or you dont feel a shift then and it red lines then yes you may have a problem with your transmission but other then that its normal DWalton2004 09-14-2004, 03:04 AM your right, you have nothing to worry about b/c i have a 96 galant and it does the same thing when going abt btw 60-80 mph. the revs be btw 3100-3600 rpm's. at first i thought it had to do something with the transmission or something when i first got the car this past april but i guess mitsubishi likes it when their cars rev btw those numbers i guess..lol Solntse 12-20-2004, 06:43 PM see if the overdrive button is pressed. if it is turned on, the rpms temt to be a bit lower, if turned off rpms are higher. DO NOT TURN ON OR OFF overdrive while you drive on freeway, the car will jerk and it is not good for transmission to do that. I kept overdrive turned on on my 90 galant, and it is built in to kick on automatically in my current 2001 galant jsinton 12-24-2004, 01:30 PM Yea, don't run around with the O/D button off, that's how they get destroyed. Just don't drive like Maria Andretti either, these cars have weak transmissions I think. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
