Hey guys have a SES light that came on today, went to autozone and had the codes read. 2 codes 1 from each side of the engine.. Same code of course..

P0440
The PCH has determined that a malfunction exists in the evaporative emission control system...

Anybody got any suggested corrective action?
possible vaccume tubes gone bad???

Any good manuals for general repair of a century, Haynes I guess??

The evaporative emission system consists of several hoses and a charcoal canister that is usually located in or around one of the fenders. Usually passenger side of the vehicle. It also uses a solenoid to operate. These are relative inexpensive to service although the solenoid can be a little high. Usually you will need to replace the canister filter which doesn't take a lot of time. Also, I prefer Chiltons to Haynes, it has more photos and illustrations.

Try Amazon.com that is where I purchased my last one from. Bought it used for about $15. They have several available for most if not all model years.

Try Autozone under vapor canister. It costs around $80 for the canister, the purge solenoid is $18. The location varies by vehicle but it is usually somewhere on the passenger side fender. Some of them are even located under the vehicle. I don't have the book or a century at present so I really can't tell you the exact location. The Haynes manual should give you the exact location, look in the index for evaporative emissions.
