TL's and stolen HID'sgquiring 01-28-2002, 10:13 PM I am sad to say I had to sell my 2000TL this week. The theft rate on these HID's is out of control. It's happened twice to me and the repairs average $3200 bucks per incident. My co-workers friend had it happen to her twice in less than a 3 week period. My neighbors friend had it happen twice to him also. All of the cars were 2000TL's. I can no longer wonder if my car's headlights will be there when returning to my car. They mangle the bumper and fenders to get the lights out. It's some scene. The theives don't care about security camera's or alarms. They steal them so quickly it's a joke. Here's a link I found: http://www.bergen.com/bcoast/highbeam200112314.htm F20C 01-28-2002, 10:58 PM That's horrible and it's not happening just to Acura. All cars with HID are attracting theives. mattattax 01-29-2002, 08:40 AM that sucks, i'm sorry to hear--my wheels got stolen off my max last week so i know the feeling--did you have an alarm? Mike89Accordcom 02-03-2002, 03:14 PM Damn that sucks guys. I hope mine never get stolen. GTRspeeder 08-24-2002, 01:02 PM I have seen a lot of T.L's without headlights in Brooklyn NY. I have even seen some new Maximas without H.I.D's. wagsaccordsir 09-21-2002, 11:58 AM I hate thieves, I hate em... Sorry to hear that though!! IXLR8TL3.2 09-30-2002, 11:05 AM I live in a small town in Pennsylvania so i don't have to worry about it that much, the huge hype on our headlights is because they sell them for accord drives on the streets. you usually see a lot of them for sale on ebay Nap11TL 11-22-2002, 12:03 PM Sorry to hear that. My dad has his stolen off his Maxima and my friend had his stolen off his 330ci. I live in NY so all cars w/ HID's are at Risk. And the way they do it is such butchery. Stealing it alone is bad. but they tottally destroy the car. Sorry again. Hugs and Kisses, NAP GTRspeeder 12-16-2002, 07:59 PM Originally posted by Nap11TL Sorry to hear that. Hugs and Kisses, NAP hell yea. i seen too many TL and Maxima with their headlights missing. they are cruising down da street without headlights. these people take less then 5 minutes to rip da lights off. i heard da Tl is da easiest to steal. i seen a lot of dem in Brooklyn.:monkeypis theives NSX 01-08-2003, 08:03 PM Whoa..that's horrible...I haven't heard anything like that happen in Canada yet...but I guess that's why alot of people have headlights working on one side and not the other. That really sucks, stupid thieves:mad: undocumented 02-22-2003, 04:50 PM The reasons for all the thefts from the TL's are two 1.) The huge market to sell them for Accords with no changes and Civics with a coupleminor changes. 2.) The ballasts are mounted right behind the lights, in most european cars with xenons the ballasts are mounted further back. The new ones have a round thingus on the bottom, but they still steal'em cause of the wireing. And it takes them only 30 seconds to remove both HIDs if they are Pro's and work in pair. They almost stole mine once, but I guess someone has scared them off, cause they only got to bend one fender and open the hood. My advice is if you live in a neighborhood where this kinda thing happens, don't park it in the same place or leave it in the same place for more then a night/day, and park it closely behind another car, this will make their job more difficult and they will pass on it. silvertltypes 04-08-2003, 06:37 AM That's sad! I had never heard of HID's being stolen from TL's, must not happen very often in FL. Sorry about your loss! gquiring 04-11-2003, 09:09 PM A co-worker just had his HID's stolen from the lot where my TL was hit twice. The same lot has HID's from Nissian, B&W, Lexus and only the Acura's get hit. I just don't understand why these low lifes go just for the Acura's. lindylou 06-16-2003, 08:13 PM Look . . . the first time my 02 Maxima lights were stolen I was parked on a busy street for 3 hours. The last time (which was yesterday) it was parked for 2 1/2 hours (at church, no less). And then they had hit 4 Maximas!!! According to the dealership it takes less than 1 minute to remove each light. So . . . the moral of the story is DON"T BUY A CAR THAT HAS THESE LIGHTS sinjaspr 11-17-2003, 11:59 AM sorry to hear abt that but i just got a 2004 tl and i m already worried. i havent heard this happening in canada but still worries me. integrasedan 12-01-2003, 01:38 AM i hate it when people steal things. i feel sorry for you. i really like the HID lights, they look good at night and day. wish i had them. lamozca 02-25-2004, 11:53 AM sorry about u lost ,mine was ythe same last friday they did the same front bunper fender and head light any sugestions estimate was 2800 $so far the only thing iam thinking is taking the ballast and inverters and put them in to the hood compartment and instal my alarm clitfford 7000 with a feww sensors mercury sensors in the back of the head lights ((((((and put a big stiker that says dont steal the head lights hid system being removed to the hood compartment and post a webb site with some pictures to see i i can avoid this from happening again )))))) and by the way this was in florida miami in front of my house and what pissis me off is that i saw the leaving in 2 cars a red civic hatchbak red 93 98 model and onother dark car it's just that i never thought about it and i went to bed without taking a look to my car f************** ass h*************** i hope i never see them again other wise i dont now what sss gonna happend because after all i saw the face of the ones were driving the car and iam just looking for them because i know the gonna come back to steal the newones by the way i had the car for just 2 months this sucksssssssss any tips please imail me at lamozca@hotmail.com lamozca 02-25-2004, 11:54 AM sorry to hear that my problem the same blacknight 04-21-2004, 02:25 PM I think Nissan had some type of recall on the 2002-2003 Maximas headlights. They were aware that the lights can easily be stolen so they were recalling the cars to reposition the balasts. I think it's the same with Honda corp. and the TL & CL models....but once again I'm not sure. As many of you know, the balasts were in the headlight assembly along with the bulbs. So what they do is push down on the front bumpers and yank out the lighting system. Most other cars are a little harder to steal like the BMW, lexus, and Mercedes. But a few of them were broken into and stolen. It really sucks. :disappoin Casper42 05-25-2004, 01:40 AM I just gotta ask, with all the thievery, and focused on TL, why havent you guys setup a sting yet? Couple video cameras and some old VCRs... blacknight 05-25-2004, 10:09 AM I just gotta ask, with all the thievery, and focused on TL, why havent you guys setup a sting yet? Couple video cameras and some old VCRs... Depends upon the Municipality. Also, the Department of Transportation (D.O.T.) has made the use of Aftermarket H.I.D.s illegal in the states. If your car doesn't stock HID's or your car manufacturer doesn't offer them as an option for your vehicle, they're considered illegal. You may have noticed, It's getting harder and harder to get them now. Oh well, I'll use mine till thew blow or something xacques 06-20-2004, 03:19 PM If everyone started etching their vin numbers into the front of their headlights, then maybe it would lessen the problem. blacknight 06-21-2004, 09:52 AM Maybe. But that wouldn't reduce the theft rate. It'll just be easier to tell if they're stolen and who they belong to. It's the same thing with people stealing honda engines and putting them in other cars. The VIN number is stamped on the engine, and if purchased the engine from someone else, make sure you have the paperwork. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
