Hi,

I have a 1993 G20 with Automatic Transmission. I have a problem. During the Automatic shift from 1st gear to 2nd gear, there will be a jerk with a hammer sound. I took it to a Transmission Service station and was told that the spring was broken and had to replace it. They charged me 217 dollars (2 hours labor and other service charges). After 5 months, the same problem has occured and I took to the same service station. They told me the same problem has occured (broken spring) and they are doing it free of cost this time for me and with out warrenty. If this happens again, I need to spend on service again.

Does anybody know why this is happening and what needs to be done ?

Thanks,
Mallik

Hmm could you be more specific and find out what this spring is/does? :)

My car use to give a delayed jerk if I came to an abrupt stop, then quickly mashed the gas, say like slowing down quickly for a red light that turns green. This remedy might sound far fetched but I have had no problem of any kind since I switched to MOBIL 1 synthetic ATF. I have Been using it for the last two years. My car has 116,000 miles.

when's the last time u had ur transmission flushed? and i don't mean drained and refilled i mean a machine was used..i just had mine flushed with mobil 1 synthetic and added a bottle of lubeguard and it's shifting way smoother now..u also will probably need a pan drop and screen change..it adds a bit to the cost but it will prolong the life of ur tranny
