Anyone have a clue why the fan on my 1997 4 cyclinder LSI metro only works on the top two settings. I can turn the heater/AC on the two lowest setting and nothing comes out until I crank it up to the two top settings. What the hell causes this and how can a person fix it?

found the answer on another web site. take the face plate off. unscrew (2 screws) control element. speed control switch has a black top with two side tabs. the tabs become loose which caused the black top to seperate from the base. which in turn causes only the two top speeds to work. the fix i used was to take a small zip tie and wrap it around the speed control switch. Voila, it now has four speeds. Be careful the back of the black housing has an opening that a small spring and ball bearing go into. be very careful when taking things apart so you don't loose these parts. they are important. The original post is a suzuki swift forum sorry I can't remember the name.

Same thing happened to my '93. The top of the blower switch worked loose and the lever with the ball bearing at the end was out of position. Once I got it back together and "locked" the top down, the switch worked in all positions.

That was exactly the case and I put a zip tie around it and it now works like a champ. I appreciate the info you guys/gals.

I made a couple of "U" shape spring clips out of coat hanger wire to hold the top of the switch in position - zip ties would have been a little easier...
