94 Saturn SC2 DOHC Alternator mount or bracket?angelnut 07-08-2004, 12:25 PM I have never owned a Saturn before and need a little advice from the pros that know this car. 1994 Saturn SC2 with 1.9L DOHC (Twin Cam) The current owner says that the 'bracket' (he thinks) that the alternator mounts to is broken. He was told that it would have to be welded or major engine work done because it seemed that that piece that the alternator bolts to was a part of the engine. Ok, I am very interested in this car. I have owned a couple Grand Ams with the Quad 4 motor and I know that they can be high maintenance motors. My question is this.... Does the Alternator use a bracket mounted to the engine in such a way that it is either harder than Hades to get at or is it really something built into the motor. I would really like to buy this car, it was just listed yesterday. I would really love to try driving a Saturn if this fix isn't more than the car is worth. I have just recently completed a swap of a 96 DOHC into a 94 SL2.... If I remember right, alternator is mounted to a bracket that connects to the motor, intake manifold, and starter. Not part of the engine, but not exactly easy to get at. On a good note, if it is a bracket it is stamped steel.... I highly doubt it is broken... most likely just loose. If it is broken, I would really consider what major catastrophe caused the break and what the integrity of the rest of the vehicle is. bomexsaturn 07-13-2004, 11:27 PM make a new bracket on the front of the motor vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
