Has anybody had any experience good or bad with installing an aftermarket hitch to a 99 or equivilant G/C? I'm looking at Hidden Hitch in particular.

Wow this is Incredible!!! Nobody has bought a hitch for their Grand Cherokee.
How about this, after finding the trailer harness adapter in the vehicle how do you get from inside the interior driver side panel on the interior to the actual hitch? In other words how is the trailer harness routed.

Sorry that no one has answered you. My Jeep came with a hitch and wiring from the factory.

I'm sure there must be a connector under the vehicle somewhere. I'll have a look tonite when I'm working on the rear brakes and diff.

you should be fine with any of the A/M hitches of a name brand.

If they install it, 2 hours should be way more than enough time.

Thanks for the response. I got the hitch in but I have questions about the harness.
I found the harness connector inside the vehicle and behind the panel housing the driver's seatbelt assy. However the way it's routed just doesn't seem right. On the outside of the vehicle and under the driver's taillight area. There is a rubber cup that when removed provides access to the interior. That's fine and all but now I have this small power converter box (part of the wire harness) just lying in the cargo area as there is no room behind the panel. I'm thinking there has got to be a better way of routing this. If one of you could simply trace the harness back from the hitch and note if enters the vehicle somewhere else I'd be very interested. Thanks.

Suppose I should have known. Only 1 guy out there with a G/C has a hitch so why am I still surprised that nobody has a trailer harness. 44 views and one nibble ...... this board is so much help.

Check out www.wjjeeps.com
Look for the section on trailers or towing. They show the routing, and also allow a .pdf download of the Mopar directions for installing the harness.
I put a factory one in my WJ. Good luck.

Sorry bout the delay

the wiring harnes goes into the cab directly above the hitch receiver. No connector on the outside.

must be under the trim around the lift gate latch.

good luck

BACKTANNER- My JGC came with a hitch already, yours may have one there already. Did you go behind the vehicle and hunker down to look about bumper level? If I'm not mistaken, you will see the darned thing right around there someplace. Also, sorry to hear about your dissatisfaction with the lag time for responses. I'll make it a point to look for any post you have, and I'll reply swiftly, unless I don't know the proper solution to your dilema. But I'm pretty keen on this kinda mechanical type stuff, so you can view my solutions with complete confidence and the security a fellow such as yourself requires. Thank You for taking the time to read this, BBD_SHAW is the name, Jeep Grand Cherokee's the game.

Thanks JDPascal and Alkraut. Sorry to the rest. Obvious It was my mistake on bringing back a post when nobody responds. I guess in the future I'll just start new threads.

How does this sound, I mean in your opinion- "My full time quadra track JGC laredo was recently brought...", or this "recently, my JGC Laredo with full time quadra track was brought..."? I've really been going through it trying to decide which one to go with next. Would you go with the first one, I think it would get more responses from solid mechanic types. I hope you were able to locate the hitch after reading my post. Don't take this the wrong way, but it gets a little bit hidden sometimes, making it more than a little bit difficult to find, depending on the particular hitch, of course. I have kind of a funny story on the subject, listen to this. My Uncle John didn't think he had a trailer hitch on his Grand Cherokee, so he thought he'd get one installed after market style. It was a big nightmare, he got jeep back with a hitch on it. They charged him for a hitch that was already there, they just told him that they installed it. I believe they did this because they were rude and sarcastic people, and they knew that UJ (uncle john) was not the brownest bark on the log, and he would probably never know, but I told him what happened. There is a good chance that the same thing could have happened in your situation, don't you think?

Oh man! Thanks for the laugh!

To empathize though, my jeep doesn't have a hitch either. I am curious backtanner, what did you go with then?
