Welll, I finally got my first car, a 1980 Buick Century Wagon with the 4.9 litre v8. To get right to the point the car has a bit of tourque, but I want a bit more.

Now, someone has told me that the buick 301 is basically a chevy 305 with a short stroke/bigger bore and that the parts are basically interchangeable. Is this true? If I were to order an intake and carb (im thinking 600-650cfm?) from holley, would I just order it for a 305? I was also thinking a set of Hedman SBC headers and for behind them a set of Hedman 3' 3 bolt flange turbo header mufflers, since I realize that I am on a budget and a set of these for behind the headers would be much cheaper than getting a full custom exhaust fabbed up (my car isnt exactly a "popular application ;) ). would these be ok to bolt behind the headers or would I have to notch my crossmember? Any info would be appreciated! Thanks.

The 301 is not a Buick motor. It's a Pontiac. It does not interchange parts with 305/350 engines. You'll need to go looking for parts for it. Firebirds had 301 engines, and you'll be able to find headers and such for it there, you may have to do some custom welding and fabrication.
