I have a 1991 geo metro with an Automatic transmission. I have a problem with it staying in park and when it is in park the only way to get it out would be to use the emergency button.. They have adjusted it but said I need a new shifter cable. They tell me the part has been discontinued. Does anyone know when I could find a new shifter cable for this car?

You might want to try www.junkyarddog.com I was able to find some hard to find parts for my Grand Am through them. It is a huge junk yard search finder and you will get contacts from junkyards that have your part in stock.

There's a solenoid under the shifter. When you press the brake pedal, you'll hear it go "thunk". Pull off the housing around the shifter, and remove the solenoid completely. Shouldn't give you any trouble anymore :) You'll be able to shift at will without hitting the brakes to release the shifter lock tho.

Thanks for the replies, have been on vacation. Still would like to find a new cable. Just got home and drove it a short distance pulled back into the grage and it will not go in park again. Will removing the solenoid work or do I really need a new cable. Can't find a new or used one anywhere...HELP...
