I purchased the same MTX 300 speaker and it sounds like crap, it needs a seperate amp to get the same bass response. I am sending my original factory speaker to simplyspeakers.com to have foam repaired which deteriated over time. This is the only solution vs. purchasing new factor speaker at nearly $300.00

Well, sorry for the delayed response. This is what i did. Got a rockford fosgate 10 in a custom q logic box. added an mtx 282 amp with smart engage(Allows the amp to be turned on by the speaker wire vs the remote wire) and Boom, boom. its all good. Just purchase the kenwood ez 500 mp3 deck online at Frye's outpost for $115 shipped. will hopefully install it this weekend. will also replace the stock rims and tires with some chromed out is300 lexus 17's. Thats gonna wrap it up for me. trying to keep it classy looking. I'll post some picks of everything once its finished.

I also have a 98 Toyota Avalon, and I'm having the same problem. The rear subwoofer is shot. I want to replace it with an after market subwoofer, Infinity Reference 8" Subwoofer. But I don't think the factory system will have enough power to push it. Any thoughts on what I should do? -Thanks

The stock system will not provide the juice for anything more powerful than stock. One option is a powered woofer, (a dedicated amp for the sub). It recieves the input from the stock system, but has its own power supply, so the only limitation is money.
