I have a Jeep Grand Cherokee Laradeo l6. I just had the 60K work done and the dealer said the car engine was in great shape and running well.My problem is when I go to start up the Jeep, it somethimes takes 3-5 seconds before the engine turns over. Somethimes it starts right away and sometimes it takes longer. I believe the battery is in good shape. Does this sound like a Starter problem. Is a starter easy to replace in a 97'.
Thanks!!

I'm no mechanic, but I did have to replace the starter on my 94 Grand cherokee laredo. To my knowledge, when the starter is bad, the engine doesn't turn over at all, at least, that's what my problem was. If I hit the starter with a hammer the engine would turn over and start right up.
I don't think it's your starter, but I could be wrong.

I have a '97 GC TSi with about 100K mi and I experience the same problem. Engine is in great condition. Sometimes when I start it , there is a 3-5 second delay and other times it starts up right away. I have no clue why this happens.

I did check the battery, and it is good. I wonder what it is?

Look at your dome lamp at the time you turn starter. If it still bright you may have problem with intermidiate relay or starter relay. First located in PDC the second on top of starter.
