bad temp sensor

I'll give my question one more try :)... My '95 w/ 4.0l has a temp guage that's not working. I gather the sender that runs the guage probably runs some input to the computer, so if the sender was bad, I'd be getting a readout on my info screen?? Has anybody ever mounted an under dash generic guage to avoid ripping out the dashboard? How did you hook it up? Can you tap into the sender that's in the block and is that sender compatible w/ generic guages (i. e.- do most guages operate off a common set of ohm ranges)? Or, can you just replace the original sender with the generic guage's sender (i. e.- if there's no output to the computer) and just run a new set up? It used to be so easy to do something like this back in the old days!! Any help on this deeply appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Hi,
there is two sensors. One for dashboard second for computer. You will not have info on screen if first one bad. So, just replase it. It's on top of cylinder 6.

Thanks for the input, guys. I got a mechanical guage (they were cheaper). If I disconnect the wires to the old top-of-block sender I get a "check engine" signal... But, I guess I can pull out the old sender w/ wires intact and hang it somewhere, then put in the new, not putting in a "t" (once I get the right-size fitting........

The second is for computer(at front of engine). If you remove that, you will create problem for computer to work correctly, even if you will live it connected. Fuel consumption will go up. :2cents:
