did my friends ls motor SIEZE??? HELP!!!crabby760 06-30-2004, 03:17 AM just got back from picking up my friend he was driving on the freeway and all the sudden his motor just revs down and gives out and his gauges started to flicker crazy ....... i get there pop the hood he cranks it and it makes the cranking sound but nothing moves the cam gears dont move nothing... and the belt was bald the timing belt all the teeth were shaved off it... what could this be any ideas and what could of caused it thanks !!! civickiller 06-30-2004, 03:33 AM he could have siezed his motor, did you try and spin the crank by hand ? do the cams spin by hand ? does hte water pump or timing belt tensioner spin easy ? what im getting at is try to find out why the timing belt stripped, what siezed. you could also take off the oil pan and check out the crank and rods and see if they look good crabby760 06-30-2004, 04:00 AM we didnt try any of that but they crank was spinning since it was cranking over but the cam gears werent moving or the water pump wi'll check all the rest tommorow crabby760 06-30-2004, 10:25 PM ok today we took off valve cover... the crank does spin when u start the car it just spins... nothing else spins when u turn the key except the crank now we turned each cam with a rachet and they turn fine all springs are fine in the head ... the water pump spins freeley.... so we have no idea whats wrong it seems like if we put a new timing belt it should all turn over since everything MOVES!!! but the other belt was stripped llike all the teeth were stripped clean when the motor gave out!!!..... we cannot figure out what would have cause it to freeze up and strip the belt like it did!!!! knorwj 06-30-2004, 11:34 PM since you turned the camshafts I would highly recomend putting them back in place before putting a new timing belt on and then time the car properly. if you don't know how to do this pick up a Helmes/chilton/haynes manuel to teach you how. crabby760 06-30-2004, 11:38 PM we are going to take the motor out he's gonna swap a gsr motor in it.. but we wanna know what might have caused it...? civickiller 07-01-2004, 03:02 AM try and spin everything that is associated with the timing belt and see which one is seized RPMtuner 07-01-2004, 03:07 AM well you probably dont have any valves any more. did the belt brake? crabby760 07-02-2004, 02:21 AM belt did not rip... all the teeth were shaved off though like if it was sanded down... we re timed it today and put a new timing belt on it everything moves when u turn the car on... but the car wont start we checked the compresssion and its at 0 there is no compression in any of the cylinders... we are thinking all the valves either bent or brooke... so tommorow we are going to pull the head off take it all out and replace all the valves do you guys think this will fix the problem and the motor will run fine after replacing all the valves..??? curios tell me what else could be wrong RPMtuner 07-02-2004, 04:10 AM thevalves could have damaged the pistons and also the valve seats it may look like hamburger but you mite get lucky be shure to take the head to a machene shop and get it cut with a 3 angle and you mite as well up grade the head to high performance parts whyle you have it apart crabby760 07-02-2004, 01:51 PM the head allready has... crower cams/crower springs/retainers.... he is just going to put in some stock vavles that we have at the shop that are good working then if the car runs he is going to pull the motor out and sell it !!! YellowITR479 07-02-2004, 04:12 PM <----has a dumb question. Did you check the oil? crabby760 07-02-2004, 04:14 PM yes oil is FULL!!! crabby760 07-05-2004, 03:14 AM ok replaced all 16 valves they were all bent... got them installed put the head backtogether and bolted it back on... now there just waiting for a timng belt slap that on then we are going to HOPE it starts up... can anyone think of anything else that could be wrong to make the car not start up just so i can inform them of it... RPMtuner 07-05-2004, 04:16 AM you should have checked the tolerance of all the head parts. did you drain the oil? look for metal in the oil. and you can also use a pipe cutter and cut the oil filter open and look for metal shavings. if there is no metal shavings then it was probably a belt failure. if you find metal you should do a tare down and find out whats wrong Lude_03 07-06-2004, 03:31 AM the cam may have skipped a tooth on the belt for some reason causeing the valves to be out in turn bending them and them screwing the belt Mannyb18b 07-07-2004, 02:45 AM your pistons might be damaged, but probly not enough to that it wont start crabby760 07-07-2004, 03:09 AM ok well i looked at them adn cleaned them up... i saw no chipps on the head of the pistons or anything wrong now they are all shiney RPMtuner 07-09-2004, 01:48 AM does it run vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
