air compressor

My air shocks are shot, I will probably replace them with gas shocks, but is there any way to determine if the compressor is bad? It doesn't turn on, and the compressor in the back compartment (for pumping up tires and other inflatables) also does not work. Are these two different compressors, or are they fed from the same unit under the car? I pulled the panel off inside the van and there appears to be some big plastic round thingy (sorry about the wording) that looks like a compressor in there, and yet theres also one suspended beneath the van.
I'v checked the fuses and they are OK. With the van running, i hear nothing when I try to activate the rear pump, or when I play with the load leveler thingy under the car. Is there any way to determine if the pump has gone bad with a meter or something?

Same part / different problem. The compressor on my 98 Transport-Montana works fine except it leaks air when running. Consequently the shocks discharge and then recharge in a continuous cycle even when the van is parked. My mechanic has advised that the compressor needs to be replaced. GM part #22137534. After market replacement is available but there are multiple specs., single gauge 5 PSI / dual gauge 5 PSI / single gauge 10 PSI and dual gauge 10 PSI. No one seems to know which is the right one. The price on the aftermarket is roughly a third of the OEM. Can anyone shed some light on this??

Well I ended up just replacing the air shocks with Monroe gas charge performance struts from autozone for $50/pair. Took all of 25 minutes to change out both sides. Didn't even have to remove the tire or anything. Just a socket wrench with a loooong extension (18mm I believe). Undid the top bolt, pulled it, and then crawled under and did the bottom one. supported van with jack (ever so slightly, just in case) and pulled the shock. Put the new one in (top bolt first), jacked the van up a bit and put the bottom bolt in and tightened. Released jack and voila!! a whole new riding van!! repeat for other side.
I just wiretied the air fittings to the bottom of the van in case I ever wanna go that route and have the $$ to replace the compressor. I would like it to work for the compressor in the back of the van though, so if anyone knows of a way to short it or test it, It wold be much appreciated.....

Which is what I should have done in the first place. However I replaced the shocks just six months ago with OEM load levelling ones so I'm still hoping someone can answer my question as to which aftermarket compressor is suitable. 5 psi, 10 psi, single gauge or dual gauge.

Does anyone know the answer?
OK, the aftermarket store is Canadian Tire. Maybe that will help.
