Thinking of buying a 94-97 Deville/Concours with the Northstar engine. Can anyone tell me their experience with this engine in these early years? How long it lasts, best years, any problems, etc. Might as well tell me their experience or things to look out for with the car in general too. Thanks

The Northstar is enjoying a wonderful reliability record, however I found out awhile ago that the starter motor is located underneath the intake manifold "thats inside the engine" I personally fail to see the logic in that, :screwy: just a heads up. good luck.........Mike

Be aware the Northstars all burn oil - 1 quart in 1000 miles. GM says that's normal. They also leak on top of that. The electronics are a nightmare. The check 'engine lite' is always on and the 'service ride control' lite will bankrupt you. Buy a Park Avenue.

Check up on carsurvey.org
Any complaints are usually made loud and clear there.
A buddy of mine does have an STS with a Northstar at 460,000 km and it runs fine.
