Are there any electronics under the hood I should stay away from while pressure washing it? I know I have never had any issues with other vehicles but this one seems to have an abundance of eclectronic juctions under the hood. Any trouble spots I should stay clear of?

Absolutely, stay away from any sort of pressure wash. There are however, many decent spray-can type products out there (e.g. @ Pep Boys, Autozone) made specifically to "shine up " an engine.

I'll throw in my concurrence with that of the former posters. I would not pressure-wash the engine compartment. Like yourself, I am a clean engine compartment enthusiast. Since I'm the original owner of my '95 I regularly rinse the engine compartment with a hose and nozzle. This has served to keep the entire compartment clean and free of dirt and grime over its 9 year, 125K mile life. I don't fear getting any of the various connectors wet, but I do avoid directing the full force of the nozzle (standard household pressures) on any of the connectors.

The engine cleaners mentioned have worked well for me when I have acquired a used automobile and wanted to bring the engine compartment up to my standard of cleanliness. I'd give that a go if I were you.

If I wanted to hose down the engine, should I cover any parts with foil such as the alernator, etc?

I would do it. Everyone thigns it bad but I used a pressure washer/steam cleaner and well it didnt really do anything on the 1/4 inch of grease that coats everything. Just dont spray direct pressure on teh distrbuter for a while of you have to wait till all the water evaporates. It will not hurt your car if you want to presure wash it. If it doesnt start let it sit for 2 ours or 3 so it all evaporates and your car will be fine. Ive pressure washed tons of cars and they all are fine. You dont need to cover anything, just do what I said and dont spray the distributer to death, you can get it wet just dont drown it. Seems that everyone here doesnt realize that when they drive in a puddle their engine gets wet, dur.

I've power washed my engine compartment several times and have never had any problems and don't worry about a distributor, the Aurora does not have one.

I rinse out my engine compartment with the engine running (in Park, with Parking Brake set!). This ensures that devices such as the alternator (mentioned above) won't "take on" a significant amount of water if I inadvertently squirt it. I don't worry too much about getting things wet. The engine compartment is generally a hostile environment and the components are designed with that reality in mind. I don't cover any components with anything. I am careful not to direct the full force of the nozzle pressure directly on any electrical components. But again, I've had the luxury of being the original owner and thus the engine compartment has never really been dirty.
