vtec not kicking in..cas4067 06-28-2004, 12:57 PM Hi all my 96 civic ex has a little oil problem and I am taking it to the shop today to get it checked I think it's burning oil because in 2,000 miles I have had to add 2 1/2 quarts of oil. I just noticed today that my vtec is not kicking in I was reving it out to about 6grand in each gear (getting on it) and me and someone else noticed that the vtec wasen't kicking in (thought it should kick in aroung 5 or 5000) he said it might be the oil problem he said if the car don't have the right amount of oil in it the vtec won't kick in anyone else have any idea what I should do megaman277 06-28-2004, 02:21 PM well vtec needs the proper oil pressure for it to kick in so if ur running low on oil that could be the problem...im assuming that your running stock ecu and all that so since its an ex it should kick in just fine...but if you change the oil and it still doesnt work it could be something with the wiring (just be lazy like me and buy a vtec controller, that way it has no choice but to work) salchichon20 06-28-2004, 02:34 PM yeah that is most likely ur problem vtec works with the right amount of oil pressure cas4067 06-28-2004, 02:44 PM Hi all my 96 civic ex has a little oil problem and I am taking it to the shop today to get it checked I think it's burning oil because in 2,000 miles I have had to add 2 1/2 quarts of oil.
