Shift rod problem?? HELPcorydeeznutz 06-25-2004, 08:45 PM The car is stuck in 4th gear and the shifter is able to move up and down freely not side to side. Is it solely the shift rod? or could it be something else ???? need advice on what to do and exactly what parts to get ac427cpe 06-26-2004, 12:35 AM did the cable come off of the transmission? corydeeznutz 06-26-2004, 05:10 PM the car isnt right here right now so I cant really answer your question, but i believe it is. A friend who also owns a MR2 said the same thing happend and he had to replaces the shift rod or cable. Where and how much can i get the part? Is it a hard install? ac427cpe 06-27-2004, 05:59 PM if it just came off, put the rear end up, put the cable back on, put a new cotter pin in... and poof! you're done if the cable broke, it's a bit more involved. you have to take the center plastic stuff off and the shift boot (assembly) off and do a whole new cable. corydeeznutz 06-27-2004, 08:06 PM thanks man.. do u think it would be worth it to check at the junkyard to get the cable or should i go to the dealer? how much would it run? JekylandHyde 06-27-2004, 08:41 PM I think both shifter cables are a bit over $200 from the dealer. It is fairly common to brake them over time. corydeeznutz 06-28-2004, 02:23 PM yup 227 dollars damn i just got my mr2 2 days ago too .. not cool ac427cpe 06-28-2004, 09:45 PM ebay? or a junkyard? corydeeznutz 06-30-2004, 05:12 PM Anyone want to tell me how to put this cable in? corydeeznutz 06-30-2004, 05:39 PM do you have to get under the car? or can u do it with just the center plastic console thing off? JekylandHyde 07-01-2004, 08:06 AM Cotter pins at the shifter and at the tranny. Pop them off, undo the cable where it comes through the firewall. If memory serves, one cable is easier to get from the top of the engine and the other is easier from the bottom. corydeeznutz 07-01-2004, 12:39 PM yep, pretty easy completed it yesterday and my cars back on the road thanks :) ac427cpe 07-01-2004, 07:36 PM yay! congrats :) vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
