popping while braking (98 Passat)VWingram 06-25-2004, 04:08 PM 98 Passat has a popping noise when you brake quickly, and then when you start of it pops again. This only happens when you break firmly from 30mph and up. Any ideas?......do I need front breaks or what?? Help!!! I am going on a 1300 mile trip next week. beatybaby 12-10-2004, 12:33 PM I think we might have the same problem... slower speeds while braking, accelerating, turning there a loud knock in the fromt wheel area. Please post if you find something out. The dealer after 3 trips is telling me it's "normal driving noise"... somehow I don't think so. martin.kerr 12-15-2004, 03:47 AM the fault I mentioned in a previous post was also heard when I first pressed the brake pedal lightly and went away as I pressed it harder If it is the same as the fault I had do not wait for it to get worse, it was in my case very serious Good luck lodownlv 08-15-2005, 12:57 PM same problem here 99 passat just got it. what the hell is it brakes? cv shaft? Will12 08-15-2005, 10:02 PM Are you sure it's not suspension? VW had second worst suspension before Mitsubishi. I think all the parts are "poured" and not machined, so no matter how good you are, it's far more that perfect method, however cheap, that's why you can buy low-end loxury car for such a cheap price. Anyhow, front end of VW always make noise. VWingram 08-17-2005, 03:27 PM I never found out what it was, but had front end brake work done. Feb. 04 and the noise went away. I then asked my new "non dealer" foreign car specialist and it was something to do with my brakes. I do not recall exactly, but I think it waws the warning bar moving causing a click when lightly applied. lodownlv 08-30-2005, 12:49 PM same thing for me it was the brakes cheep shit. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
