Can you hear a relay click when you push the button? If not I would check replace the relay. I believe it is located behind the glovebox. This is where the click comes from when I pop the trunk or fuel door in my girlfriend's '99 Intrigue.

Is your gas cap cover seized? spray some WD-40 or something on the spring and see if this helps. On my GF's car her trunk will release but does not pop-up by itself. Does your trunk lid pop up by itself when you open it or do you need to lift it yourself? I think my GF's trunk lift supports might be worn out. If this doesn't help I don't know what to tell you.

I am having the same problem with my 1998 88, I can hear the click in the glove box, the trunk releases about 1 in every 30 or so tries.

My dad has an Intrigue and the power trunk release quit. In my 99 Mazda 626 there is a disable switch inside the trunk.....I guess to prevent or help prevent thieves from entering the trunk even if they break into the car. Anybody know if the Intrigue has such a switch. I haven't had a chance to look at the car yet myself.
