I don't have my own car yet, but I share a 93.5 Infiniti G20 with my mom. I haven't had any problems with the car, but lately she has been complaining that it doesn't start *at all*. I have never seen it do this, but she sez she turns the key and nothing happens. I took the car to 4 different mechanics, and then checked out the battery, starter, alternator, etc and they all said nothing is wrong with the car. Any idea what could be causing this? Thanks for any help!

Hmmm... truly bizarre...

Auto or stick??? Has she tried giving it a wee bit of gas when she starts it??? Could the fuel lines be frozen???

hmm, I dunno... Like I said, I still haven't experianced the problem. it's possible that the fuel lines could be frozen, but it's not really *that* cold. and like the first time my mom sez it happened.. she brought the car home, put it in the garage, went back to drive out again 15-20 minutes later, and it woudln't start. It's Auto btw. (wish it was stick, but my mom can't drive stick, lol)

Replace the starter, I did, and make sure you get the one made by MITSUBISHI. HITACHI makes the other starter unit, this unit was upgraded, Im not sure what year. If you go to the dealer you have a choice of purchasing a new or remanned starter either should be the MITSUBISHI. I paid $175.00 bucks (WARANTEED FOR YEAR), ouch! I didn't trust the auto parts store even though they said theirs was lifetime waranteed. I mention this because the auto parts stores have both on their shelves in the same box with the same part number ....definitely open the box you receive if purchased at a auto parts store and make sure you get the MITSUBISHI. it will be stamp on the starter

I have the same problem with my car. The problem is the Auto Trans shift lever should be in Parking position while starting the engine and since the shift lever loose and will not be exaclty at Parking position. Make sure that the shift lever is in parking position before starting by pressing the lver to that position.

Hope this helps.

Im with Malik on this one.....My Primera does exactly the same thing sometimes...you just gotta jiggle the Auto lever a bit until it rests in the "P" spot correctly.

Iv'e done that by accident by pulling the emergency brake while my car is on then I turn the car off never realizing that my car was never in park. I go to turn the car on and it won't start because I left the car out of park. His problem sounds like the problem I had two summers ago when my car became tempermental and would not start some times. If I turned it off and tried to immediately turn it on it would not start...go back to it maybe 30min an hour later, she'd crank right up. I still think you may need a starter. Good Luck!

I never would have thought it had to do with the shifter... when I sit down, my hand always falls to the shifter, so I guess I'm pushing it in place w/o even knowing it. Thanks for the info mallikkk and MattyG!
