I love my golf but my garage have told me it is doomed and despite my best efforts to understand cars I dont.

The oil warning light keeps buzzing but the oil level is fine - any ideas?

The worst is the sparks that are coming off the distributer cap and the spark plug leads. I think its about to give up.

The car is also losing loads of water and I cannot find a leak in the radiator or anywhere else. The head gasket was replaced two years ago - could it be going again?

The garage has also told me the gearbox is bad the clutch is about to go and the oil pump may need changing. Our garage are fab but have told me its not worth doing the work as it will cost too much. Any suggestions on what to do? I love the dam car but feel its heading for the graveyard - any ideas on how to save it would be gratefully recieved. Im not afriad to get my hands dirty but Im only just learning where everyhthing is and what it is called.

Seriously if a mechanic says he does want to be paid for fixing it-
Give up - I have a 91 with all new parts - but Can't fix it....

If you must- the oil is probebly filled with water that you "lost" and is causing it to be too 'thin' causing oil pressure to drop and buzzer too come on-

You most likely need new spark plug wires and plugs- they are misfiring-

And I bet I will be the only one to answer you because in my humble opinion a VW is NOT a good car to learn how to fix cars on... sorry

Why do you say golfs are not good for learning on? I have a 1.8Mk2 and just replaced the carb and want to tackle some other jobs - are they complicated?

I'l Be more specific - 85-93 Fuel injected VW- There IS a reason VW shops charge 250 n up to "look" at your car- The wiring is brittle and the whole FI setup is goofy - My favorite is when you ask "How do I know if XXX part is bad?" Reply: "After you put a new one it, if it's not better, then that wasn't it...." LOL
