Do I Need To?grasnic 06-22-2004, 11:53 AM I have a 1992 Pontiac Grand Prix, I need to replace the Rear Struts, Do I really need to compress the rear leaf spring to replace my struts? The instructions says I need to, but I'm not sure that I do? Any Help is appreciated! GTP Dad 06-22-2004, 07:58 PM According to the Haynes manual you must compress the leaf spring to remove the struts. The book also states that you need special tools to do this. If the tools aren't readily available take it to a shop to have it done. It may be cheaper in the long run. Flatrater 06-22-2004, 09:02 PM No you don't, no need to compress the leaf spring. I have never done it that way. grasnic 06-24-2004, 12:15 PM No you don't, no need to compress the leaf spring. I have never done it that way. So, just mark the struts and move on then? Thanks! Yeah, I didn't see why you must compress the leaf spring, considering most shops don't even have that special tool, nobody sells it! vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
