VW Jetta fact or myth?? Gas mileage?

I am thinking of purchasing a used Jetta 2000 or newer. When I ride past dealers they have painted on the windshields 45MPG. That sounds sweet since gas is so high...I assume these are 4 bangers.. For those of you that have Jetta's out there please tell me what the actual mileage I would get or what you get? Currently I have a 91 Honda accord 2.2 and only get about 25-26mpg. Maybe I should just go back to the geo metro I used to have!!

Oh...beware the oil guzzling 2000 or so AEG 2.0L engines which guzzle oil at a rate faster than 1qt. per 1000 miles due to improperly installed piston rings! Probably get a great deal on one of those!

TDI jettas are great. I have a few buddies with them and they are all in love with them. With a few small mods you can pull consistant high 40's/gal and low 50's
