3.8 II engine just developed a significant leak near the oil filter and it is not coming out of the filter seal. It is difficult to actually see the source. There is some type of sensor (maybe oils pressure?) in that immediate area and it does have oil on it. Do these devices ever crack? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Like anything else things do break and wear out. I would buy a new sending unit and replace it ASAP as you may find yourself running without oil. Sometimes these go bad internally and will allow oil to leak out. Not a hard fix but it is a starting point. If this does not fix the problem look above the unit as there may be a leak elsewhere.

Thanks, replaced the sender and nary a drop comes down. Couild have lost the engine because of a bad $14 gizmo!
