Tough Headlight Questionoxide7 06-19-2004, 08:41 PM I wanna make my own custom headlights. Now I think there are 2 ways to go about this, my own, or a company. I don't know of any companies or people who do this. So I was thinking of making the front (visible part) of the headlight with fiberglass, but im not sure what to do with the back (i'd be using the original lights, and modifying them, yes i know its probably illegal) Anyway Im not sure how to do the back of them, cut it open and then what, im not sure how i would do the bulb housings for the brights (reflective) or even where to get the housing of projector lights... Anyone know anything that could help me? Thanx. Import2nr99 06-19-2004, 09:26 PM fiberglass? ummm I haven't ever seen clear fiberglass. might wanna try plexiglass... but you'll need one hell of a heat gun to bend and mold it. I would use plexi for the clear, get some highly polished aluminum, and coat it in... shit... I forget what it's called. they use it on the new headlights. do a quick search and you'll find it. but do that, then mold that around your existing headlights to make a good fit. it's going to be an incredible amount of time and work depending on what kind of look you're going for exactly. it's an interesting idea though. I'm interested in seeing how it turns out. if you have any questions, let me know. I'll try to help you as much as possible. I did the silvia (and will be doing it again) conversion on an eclipse, but never custom made a headlight. Hope it works out. be sure to post pics! oxide7 06-19-2004, 10:26 PM OK, sorry it was unclear what i wrote I would star with an eclipse headlight, what i basically want to do is change the placement of the lights, the front clear part would remain, but that black part would change. I was actually thinking of putting silvia lights on my car, they look nice. Do you have a pic of what it looks like? Import2nr99 06-20-2004, 11:19 AM here's one: not the best... I'll look for some more. http://www.jtautostyle.com/ mitsueclipse07_big.htm Import2nr99 06-20-2004, 11:22 AM here's a closeup: http://www.autosportz.com/ bodykits_jdm_nissan.htm EDIT: shit, I don't know if I"m doin it right. Just go to google, click the images search, and type in s15 headlights, s15 eclipse, silvia eclipse, and so on and you'll get some good pics. ashah000 06-20-2004, 12:15 PM I would star with an eclipse headlight, what i basically want to do is change the placement of the lights, the front clear part would remain, but that black part would change. So you just want to change the black housing part? Do you just want to change the color or something? EclipseRST 06-20-2004, 12:52 PM just do the swap! that would be much easier! Julioluko 06-20-2004, 06:13 PM OK here I have done somecustom lighting jobs and dont go with the plexi glass, It chips and fogs over way too easy, they wouldnt last 6 months. As for the backin gof the lights what you could do is make a mold. The easyest and cheapest way to do that is get 3 tubes of silicone sealen AKa "caulk" or "cawulk" as some say. layer it on the piece you want to make a mold of and be sure to apply it in over lapping rows so you dont get air bubles. Wait like 2 days for it to dry completely and there it your mold as far as material Bondo or any plastic fill will do fine. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
