QUOTE=geozukigti]Any manual metro/suzuki swift/pontiac firefly/chevy sprint from 1989-2001 will work. Exact same casing, and splines. They will have different gear ratios. A regular metro has 3.94:1 final drive, while a swift GT has a 4.11:1 final drive, and a geo metro convertible has a 4.39:1 final drive.[/QUOTE]

Now lets see... If I understand geozukigti correctly the earlier years (89-94) metro 5 spd tranny from a 3cyl 1.0 is a direct replacement?

Also does this mean the 5 spd tranny from a 1.3 4 cyl engine would work to replace my 5 spd in my 98 metro w/ 3 cyl 1.0 as well? Are the splines the same & etc.?

Note: I would like to keep the economy factor in the car and not race it.

Yes it will. It will have slightly taller gears because it was designed for a 4 cylinder. It will cruise at a lower RPM, but you may find yourself downshifting to go up big hills.

Thanks for the info on gearing. I was wondering how to overcome the ill effects of larger tires and wheels (195/50-15) on gearing in my 94 Metro. Looks like I need the trans out of a convertible to make up the difference.

Those are the size tires I'm gonna be running on my new convertible project. I still have my 195/60 R14's, but they spin too much. Those rims are still available if anyone is interested :)
