My first Bimmer came home today!Scott314 06-15-2004, 12:30 PM :iceslolan:iceslolan:iceslolan Wow, this thing is nice. It's a 1989 325i...Just a couple questions about it: First, about the idiot lights. The check engine light was flashing for part of the trip. What's this thing for, and does it go on and off by itself, or does it need to be reset? There's a panel of green yellow and red LED's. What are they for? And the oil light on the overhead check panel came on for a while. Please explain all these goofy lights :eek7: Second, there's a small rattle thats' audible at idle. It's not coming from the engine compartment. I think it might be one of the brackets for the exhaust, but I'm not sure. Any suggestions? Third, once while my dad was in it while it was idling and he heard three loud beeps that he said sounded like they came from beside him. What could it be? It never happened to me while I was driving, so I can't really go into detail. Fourth, what's the little button on the key for? Lastly, there was some water inside the trunk on the drivers side where the jack sits. It's also rusted there. Is it the tail light gasket that needs replacing? Thanks in advance, guys. I love this thing already :smokin: 323imankiks 06-15-2004, 04:49 PM when the check engine light flashes i think it means your engine is misfiring take it to an Autozone so you can see if any codes are stored its free its a starting point for that it tells you emission stuff or if sensors go bad . As for your water in trunk are there any body plugs missing? or possible it was in a accident and was repaired. or as you said it may be a trunk gasket or your light gasket. As for your other questions someone else may know better . the green red and yellow lights are for your oil service change and inspection 1 and 2 intervals it will i think go from green to red when you need service it calculates how many miles you drive,on and off of engine check your oil level :eek7: .. :2cents: Scott314 06-15-2004, 06:38 PM The dealer we bought it from filled it a bit too full with oil. I'm not sure if that would make the light go on or not. Anyways, the oil has been changed just now, and my moms out with the car right now. I'll ask her when she gets back if the light went out. The trunk is all better too. It was the seal around the antenna. It rusted the jack quite a bit, but not the body. I think the rattling noise is the pilot bearing. Not a big deal for now. I'll take care of it soon. kenna325is 06-15-2004, 11:40 PM The button the key probably turns on a light on the key. There is a battery/light compartment that slides out. kazzoo 06-16-2004, 08:59 AM The chimes you heard may have been the clock alarm,it will chime on the hour ,every hour unless turned off.you will see a picture of a alarm on the clock face if it's on. Scott314 06-16-2004, 06:54 PM Ok, I'm not sure what the problem with the oil light is, but I tested the sensor and its working alright. I couldn't find any wiring problems, so for right now, the idiot light panel is just going to stay disconnected. One more thing: There's a drain behind the hood but in front of the windshield that's leaking on the passengers side. Where is it supposed to drain to, and how do I get to it? vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
