Looking at buying a 2000 Camry LE....opinions?owslystnly 06-14-2004, 05:13 PM Hi, I own a 1999 Honda CIvic HX and am trying to help my family purchase a decent used car. I know that Hondas and Toyaotas are reliable, but have never owned nor driven a Toyota. I have come across a 1999 Toyota Camry LE with 47k miles, 4 cylinder, automatic for a good price. I was wondering if people could share their opinions on the 2000 LE. For us power isn't a big thing (old car was a minivan). Mostly concerned about reliability. Really only want to have to put in oil and gas, and minor repairs (brakes, muffler, etc). Thank you for your help! Brian R. 06-15-2004, 01:16 PM Take it to a mechanic you trust and have him look it over carefully. If he says it's good and it drives smoothly (both engine and transmission shifts), it is probably a good car. Keep an eye out for smoke from the exhaust, check engine lights, smooth shifting by transmission, quiet engine, quiet driving in general (particularly over bumps). Make sure all the accessories work. solidg 06-17-2004, 07:51 AM my 00 camry le v6 has started up for 4 yrs. i did have a couple probs with the seals. I dont think i broke the vehicle in properly. The car we looked at was beaten up pretty good by the owner. Lots of scratches, dings, and dents (owner was into outdoors a lot more than cars I guess), and the car shuddered at highway speeds (I am assuming alignment was off). My parents went with a new 2004 Accord LX automagic.
