i've heard people talking about your engine operating at different levels of efficiency, because of how your ecu senses certain things. also heard it can be in 'safe' mode or something, which really hurts performance. hoping someone who knows about ecu's might be able to shed some light on what causes this, what it means, and how to reset it if that's necessary/smart

i think ur car would run in that safe mode if ur O2 senor were to be out of not plugged in or something like that and the same with the other senors.
To clear stuff like that i have no idea but im guessing u need to kno the error code... fix that problem and then rip out the fuse to the ECU for 30 secs and erase the codes.

hey i went to ur cardomain site and looked at the pics of ur accord. Thats pretty friggin nice. U got an f23 motor in there? the engine pic looks like the exhaust ports of an f23 thats why where the 2 center pipings on the header are close together and the 2 outside ones further from the center ones instead of being evenly spaced apart.

nah it's f22. and thanks about the car. so just taking its fuse out for a bit will reset any sub - optimal modes it might be operating in?

im not possitively sure about just taking out the fuse for the ECU but that is what i heard. Why is ur car running in a weird mode or something or are ya just wondering?

wow f22 huh... sohc vtec? if so... i envy u in a small way cuz i wish i had that motor

i dunno it just always feels slow, but i guess that's cuz IT'S AN ACCORD!! ya that's an f22, why would you want an f22? you have an f23 sohc nonvtc? i guess it's getting a little quicker, put on the cai yesterday, and started his diet today. got 60 lbs out, w/o removing subs or spare or backseat. should be able to hit 100lb w/ spare still in car, but we'll see (that's not counting cf hood either, dunno what original weighed)

so it feels like u are lacking power then huh? If u notice an increase in fuel comsumption then something is definitely wrong and probably robbing u of power. But yea i have an accord too and after getting used to it so much it does feel slow compared to driving an evo 8 a while ago at my workplace. Nah but usually when u do exhaust like that u lose bottom end but then losing that bottem end gains u top end... which u rarely feel unless u gun it all the time. But yea if ur car in in that "safe" mode usually u will get really poor gas mileage cuz ur car's computer would be guessing but still be able to run... just not smoothly.

anyway i have an f22a4 non vtec (90 ex accord). wish i had vtec... lil more power... lil better gas mileage.

ya but that little amount is so relatively small that once you get used to it it'll seem like nothing again. even if you swap in an h22 it's not a real fast car, until you start to get at least i/h/e + some other stuff.that's why i'm doing the diet now, because half the prob is that my car weighed in at 3100. ya it actually did get a drop in gas mileage, but i also changed driving habits, so i dunno. also the air filter (k&n) was sooo clogged / old. i need to find out what those codes are before i reset it, so damn busy that i get to work on my car in small increments here and there, don't wanna tackle something like that (i've never done it before, though i hear it's simple.) until i have an hour or two

oh so u checked the ecu and it started throwing out codes? Yea most likely when u find out what those codes are and cure it then ur problem is solved. i dunno just a thought... u should check the spark plugs since it is an easy access thing to check.

well my check engine light has gone on randomly, and even gone on then the engine stalled, on a few occasions throughout the past few months. but then i turn the car back on, and everything's fine. gotta figure out what the codes are, haven't checked yet, then reset it.
