Hey,

A few days ago I was *trying* to race this guy in a civic with my 90 Ford Probe 5 speed, sadly I forgot to shift into 4th and when I glanced at the tachometer i was at 6800RPM, and after I slowed down, the car seemed to have a lower than normal idle and sounded pretty bad, no check engine light and the gauges seem Ok..

What happened?

p.s car has 188,052 miles, tune-up 2000 miles ago, oil change 650 miles ago

I had a celica that did the same thing. I downshifted to 2 from 4th at about 70 on accident and it revved to the moon. Then after that it did the same thing. It didnt sound bad and it ran fine but it had about a 300 rpm lower idle. Dont know what was wrong but it ran fine,

Yea, it can cause the gears to burn up... Have you checked your oil? there might not be any lubrication... Try to fill the oil and coolant, and then just turn the car on and let is sit for a while...

Head over to Probe-Enthusiast.com, the guys there might be able to help you...
