I purchased this Olds Intrigue, new, in July of 2000.
I also purchased the "extended warranty" which ends in 2006.
Up to last week, this car has 42,000 kilometers (approx. 24,000 miles) and has had the the following repairs:
Tie Rods, Front & Back Rotors and Brakes, Hazard & Turn Indicators switch replaced.
About 2 months ago I heard a loud "ticking" coming from the engine.
It was inspected and decided that the piston(s) were causing the problem. The GM dealership pulled the engine apard and found that all 6 pistons were badly scored, scratched and would have to be replaced.
This, of course, did not cost me a dime. However, the question is; how can a 3.5 V6 have all that damage with only 24,000 miles on the engine?

So, if you have an Intrigue and hear a "ticking" sound coming from the engine and, most importantly, have a warranty, get it fixed.
By the way, the cost, if you did not have a warranty, to fix this problem would have been $8325.83 !!!

When you say a ticking problem. Does it go away after the car warms up. and who is the mechanic who quotes 8K for the fix. Thats two new engines.
