sentra spec v vs rsx-s vs celica gt-s?corolla99 06-12-2004, 09:37 PM which one is better and why? NerveAgent 06-13-2004, 08:14 AM sentra spec v cheaper torque why the hell would you spen 24'g on a car like the rsx type s for about that amount of money you could get a Subaru WRX.(im just bitter about honda's since i own one)celica looks like a girls car. i test drove one and wasn't really impressed. The rsx is a nice ride but.. the lack of torque just kills it. And its a bit small. Spec V isn't the pretty car out there but its fucking fun to drive. YOu can actully feel the car. That is totally right. Just few specs now: Celica Gt-s: 138hp, $24000 Rsx 200hp not enough torque, no arm rest, price $26000 SpecV: 175hp 180lb/ft torque 17" rims stock price $18.500 I own a black 04 specV and i really like that car is really fun and responsive. Go with specV $$ you save you can use on mods and fun stuff!!! fugiot 06-21-2004, 10:02 PM That is totally right. My mistake, but still go with specV. mn80228 06-25-2004, 07:31 AM The Spec is also going to save you money on insurance. I was looking at the same 3 cars when I bought by Spec back on 02'. The RSX-S and Celica were a bunch more simply because they were 2-doors. Technically the RSX makes more horsepower, but at 9000 rpm. Who drives around town at 9000 rpm. The spec makes more power and more torque through the entire powerband. It is just the RSX will rev for another 2500, and that is where it makes more power. Drove all three, and an Eclipse, Lancer (evo wasn't out) even a used Camaro SS (340 hp, and the same price range since used) Bought the Spec, and have never looked back. Wonderful car. Haven't had any problems. If you don't count the slow aftermarket parts, but that is changing. Buy the Spec. daveshapellSVT 09-07-2004, 05:17 PM the spec v is the better car all around... the celica is the slowest of the group, and the sentra and rsx are close to where its a drivers race... to me honda has a little too much pride pricing the resx that high.. its deffinatly not worth 24k.. i bought my 04 spec v with brembos for 17k... nissan has rebates honda doesn't.. even further more in the 24k price range theres so many better cars you can get for your money.. SRT-4 is one i can think of that will just piss all over the rsx.. its a second faster in the 1/4 mile and has all the same options and more.. plus to me its a really plain ass car and too many ppl have them in blue lol lsv601 09-12-2004, 01:00 AM i own a 03 spec. i love it. i paid $17k. the best bang for your buck. handles like a dream and you can aftermarket for cheap. i have a few and spent well under $3k. im running 245hp out of mine. no turbo or s/c. mine will spank a mustang gt and camaro z-28 and ss any day of the week. any lil wannabe import tuner wants to play, its just down right embarassing for them. so i say buy a spec-v, the best car for the money in my eyes. TeggyLS 09-12-2004, 02:23 AM im gonna buy a sentra and have test drove all 3 of the above, from a stand still the sentra will get a jump and will win stop light to stop light, from a roll forget it, the rsx has u. The rsx felt a little more refined, then either the toyota or the nissan, but i like the raw feeling that the nissan leaves u with. I really like 4 doors, its just alot more convenient, and i think it looks really good. Kind of sleeperish :p The sentras buckets where really comfy. I snow board so i can even throw my board in the back through the trunk and the fold down 1/4 rear seat, which is really nice. So really with the nissan u have real world power, gobs of torquey response, the rsx just doesnt get it done until u get it wound up. The celica just generally felt slower then both, i dunno, i wasnt really impressed with anything about it. Buy the nissan, and spend the extra money that u would of spent on the rsx for a balance shaft removal kit, intake and header, clutch, flywheel, short throw shifter and some stickier tires/light rims, exhaust and an afc. should be around the rsx price after all of this, maybe a little bit over, but you will absolutly smoke any stock rsx in your sites, from a stop or from a roll. daveshapellSVT 09-12-2004, 09:03 PM yea right the rsx type s runs the same times a specv does stock for stock... i think the rsx drives like crap and feels slugish... some hondas are fast but all are a pain in the ass to drive in the city. they need more torque.. they are so annoying.. that was one of the biggest reasons i bought my spec v.. its so easy to drive and its quick.. freekinfreak 10-06-2004, 02:50 PM I am an Integra GSR owner who loves Honda and Acuras, But, I gotta admit, I love the Spec-v. My friend has 1 wit all the bolt on goodies and cams and what not, and holy sh!t ! What a fun car to drive. I would definately take 1 over the Celica and Rsx, though not quite as quick as the RSX stock vs. stock. Mod for mod, the Spec-v has got the edge. chris0276 10-06-2004, 03:02 PM Yeah, I've heard that the Spec V gets more from mods than a Honda/Acura does. You can get a Spec V and just add and CAI and it will be just as fast as the RSX-S. And you'll save $5,000. sr20de4evr 10-06-2004, 04:44 PM mod for mod they aren't even close, put a cai and hondata on an rsx-s and there's no way you could keep up with it in a spec without nitrous or FI. jmrev 10-06-2004, 10:38 PM The Spec is also going to save you money on insurance. Buy the Spec. just because it says 9k on the tack doesnt mean it will hit 9k, the most it will go to (rsx&celica) 8k rpms. mn80228 10-07-2004, 07:38 AM just because it says 9k on the tack doesnt mean it will hit 9k, the most it will go to (rsx&celica) 8k rpms. The rev limitter in the RSX S-type is in fact set at 9200 rpm. Now I don't know about the Celica's rev limitter. But my point was that the Spec makes a whole lot more torque at lower rpm, which in effect makes the car a lot more driveable. Don't get me wrong. I drove the RSX S-type. I even drove a new one just a little while ago when I was thinking about a new car. Both are great cars, I just think the Spec is a lot more driveable, plus a lot cheaper. Both in purchase cost and insurance costs. My insurance company likes the fact that the Spec is a 4-door. kman10587 10-07-2004, 09:42 PM While there is quite a bit of bias and exaggeration in this thread from the Sentra guys, I'm gonna have to say that the Spec V is the best buy. It hasn't had a re-design in five years, it has a clunky shifter, and it's lacking in backseat room, but all of that contributes to its lower price. Other cars you should check out are the Toyota Corolla XRS, the Mazda 3, and the Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart. j scam 10-08-2004, 05:45 PM ya you have to go with a spec it's a 2.5 theres more motor for the money hands down. case closed how many drag rsx's do you see very few sr20det and qr25de motors are power house's not a 2.0 ivtec. same thing a wrx and evo is tuned and turbo' ed so if you tune and turbo a spec v you BLOW away any rsx or wrx or evo you can only do so much with a 2.0 unless you bore case closed sr20de4evr 10-08-2004, 09:14 PM ya you have to go with a spec it's a 2.5 theres more motor for the money hands down. case closed how many drag rsx's do you see very few sr20det and qr25de motors are power house's not a 2.0 ivtec. same thing a wrx and evo is tuned and turbo' ed so if you tune and turbo a spec v you BLOW away any rsx or wrx or evo you can only do so much with a 2.0 unless you bore case closed you have absolutely NO idea what you're talking about do you? how old are you? TeggyLS 10-08-2004, 10:09 PM The RSX is a fast car, and with tuning can have a very high output and lots of torque. But i like the sentra because its a total package, has a big trunk, 4 doors, lots of power, i like the interior and i love the seats. it is just a more practical car for me. Dont get me wrong id love to have a rsx or even a wrx, but the spec v is in the right price range. freekinfreak 10-09-2004, 09:14 AM [QUOTE=j scam] you tune and turbo a spec v you BLOW Blow up your engine maybe. From what I have heard, the 2.5 is NOT able to handle boost, even with upgraded internals. Please correct me if I'm wrong, I'm just quoting what my friend said about his car. He wanted a turbo but everywhere he looked for info, turbo'd Spec's weren't lasting very long at all. sr20de4evr 10-09-2004, 01:30 PM with new internals they can hold some power, but stock they can't. The rods are like pencils, they tend to snap somewhere around 230-250whp, so until you replace them with forged rods you really can't start making some serious power. Once you do replace them though it's all good, the tranny can take upwards of 4-500whp, and after you change out the internals so can the engine. Run a search on b15sentra for a guy that goes by the name of chillboy, I think he's making around 450whp currently. TeggyLS 10-09-2004, 01:49 PM ive seen quite a few examples of the QR runnin around pushin 8 psi and about 270 whp, some for over 5k miles, Not that they will last but who knows. If i was going turbo, id set the boost around 5psi, i wouldnt risk anymore, without some new internals, especially those thin rods. But the motor in general is quite capable of boost, and big numbers. kman10587 10-15-2004, 01:17 PM Seems to me that if you wanna go turbo, it's best to get a 99-01 SE with comes with the SR20DE...slap a T on the end and bam, JDM power :) mn80228 10-15-2004, 01:36 PM Seems to me that if you wanna go turbo, it's best to get a 99-01 SE with comes with the SR20DE...slap a T on the end and bam, JDM power :) It's not quite that easy..... Plus the Spec has different suspension set-up, and a few other goodies that you aren't going to find on a 2000 GXE. sr20de4evr 10-15-2004, 02:42 PM who would turbo their car and not replace the suspension? other than that the only "goodie" you're going to find on the QR that you won't on the SR is a HLSD instead of a VLSD. The helical is definitely better, but the QR is also much more expensive to turbo than the SR (at least for big power it is, for small to moderate power it would be around the same price). And the GXE didn't come with the SR, it was the b13 and b14 SE-R and the b15 SE. mn80228 10-15-2004, 03:55 PM Yeah, I see your point. I actually always liked the look of the old B13's. Couldn't find one in decent shape when I bought the Spec. Winters around here just kill cars. Plus any B13 you could find that was in decent shape was because the owner knew what it was, and didn't want to sell it. Oh well. Still love the Spec. May go with a turbo on my project car. Still have to see about pricing for a twin turbo V8, plus the budget for getting car done just isn't there. I have read of people swapping the QR for a SR-DET. That just seems like it would be more expensive and time consuming than turbo-ing the QR. Lychus 11-03-2004, 09:57 PM Get the Spec V my boy has one and its pretty good. The celica sucks two of my friends have them and they are extremely slow (yes the GTS) id say get a gsr. My stock gsr takes out my boys 04 spec v with intake and full exhaust. And hes a better driver than me. friday86 11-15-2004, 12:00 PM Ask people from the RSX forums and from the Celica forums for more info I guess... me personally, I'd get a Spec-V Whisper 11-22-2004, 03:11 PM I like the Spec V. It's a lot of fun to drive around town, and can handle some track time. In the higher gears it's a bit lacking. The RSX would be a better highway driver or track driver. I have read the RSX has beat the Spec in tests over longer distance/higher speed. Spec V is one of the chosen vehicles for autocross because it handles nicely out of the box. If you want to get into mod's then this car will get expensive quick. Suspension isn't adjustable; replace. etc. Not sure how the RSX would compare to make it successful at the track. The question of what is the best car is tricky at best. The question should be "what is the best car for me." To answer that, we would need to know how do you intend on using the car, what type of driving do you do, and what are the weather/road conditions you have locally? Lychus 12-08-2004, 12:31 PM the gts is slow. I had a 1st gen rx7 and ate it. One of my boys has a spec v and its fast but the rsx s is much faster and because its a honda it will have many many more mods. thats the only thing that kills the spec v. hopefully it will be as popular as honda cars so my boy can hook up his ride. niterocker 12-17-2004, 12:31 AM personally, in my family we have a spec v, i drive a 99 prelude, and my dad has a rsx-s. the spec v is a nice ride, but it does feel cheaper than the honda's. i still like to drive it when i get the chance. but you can tell it's cheaper for a reason. qr25sentra 12-17-2004, 03:05 PM i drive a 2.5 limited edition sentra, and i would like to say its a nice car..i havent had any problems with it.throttle response is great and the torque is crazy.the things i dont like about my car is the suspension and the auto tranny.the suspension is way better on the spec.out of these 3 i would say go with the spec-v,i am also goin to buy a new car next june.my choices right now are the spec-v or srt-4. Lychus 12-20-2004, 11:45 PM the spec v might have torque but the gear ratios are horrible thats why it gets beat by hondas. A prelude, Gsr, or anything higher walks the spec v. It might be fun to drive for most people... till u pull up next to one of those. Then the spec Vs torque doesnt even matter. That to me is not fun. Im too much into racing to think that its fun to drive. Fun to drive in an isolated street maybe. Once you find a kid to race you gotta worry about what kind of car he has to see if you will win or not. Loosings not fun. ROFLMAO. Sorry. I just read how alot of people thought the car was fun to drive. To me loosings not fun. Wether u admit it or not, you agree. The spec Vs good for the money.. but then again ill spend the couple thousand more for a real car. On a positive note though if you could open your version of vtec 1000 rpm earlier or longer youd be alot better off. qr25sentra 12-21-2004, 12:53 PM most people compare it to the rsx-s..and they dont see why it would beat it.well lets see.. acura rsx type-s:a lot more hp,i-vtec,8000rpms,around 2700-2800lbs sentra spec-v:a lot more tq,cvtc, about same weight. so what makes the rsx faster... Spec-v 1st 3.153 2nd 1.944 3rd 1.392 4th 1.055 5th 0.809 6th 0.673 Reverse 3.002 Final Drive Ratio 4.133 RSX type-S 1st gear 3.267 2nd gear 2.130 3rd gear 1.517 4th gear 1.147 5th gear 0.921 6th gear 0.738 Reverse 3.583 Final Drive Ratio 4.389 Vip09 12-27-2004, 05:28 PM I don't see why you guys think the Celica GT-S is so much slower than the Type S and Spec V (stock). Last time I checked, all 3 cars are high 14 to low 15 sec cars. I ran 14.7 in my GT-S bone stock. I haven't had a chance to run against a Type S yet (hardly anyone around here has one), but I have ran against 2 Spec V's. First one was from a stop.. he got me on the launch, but I pulled on him in each gear, especially on top end.. that car had a lot of torque though. The other I raced on the interstate on the way home from a car show/drag event. We raced from a roll at 70mph. I pulled away from him pretty easily. It's pretty well understood at clubrsx.com and newcelica.org that the GT-S and Type S are just about as evenly matched as you can get. *Edit- If you happen to race a GT-S and beat it so bad that you thought it was a Kia Rio or something.. it was an auto. The auto GT-S runs 17's (slower than the auto GT celica). Nipz 12-28-2004, 01:52 AM I have race celica GT-S, RSX trype S. all 3 cars are good cars. most of the race come down to a drive race. But the RSX loves mods and has a ecu out for it. The spec-v take good to mods but does not have a ecu out for it. if you put the same money in to the RSX and Spec-v after you buy the car the RSX type S will take the Spec-v. Nipz 12-28-2004, 01:58 AM qr25sentra what year spec-v did you pull the gears off of? Because the 02 are dif then the 03. not sure of the 04 and 05 are the same or not as the 02 Vip09 12-31-2004, 05:23 PM The RSX is going to have a better aftermarket.. hands down.. I have no idea what the Spec V aftermarket is like. I know the celica GT-S doesn't have that big of an aftermarket. We don't even have cams or a race header yet.. but we do have Apexi PowerFC :) blown05 04-10-2007, 03:12 PM hey i turboed my sentra and it puts u back in your chair i love how torgury it is and with that big discplacement there is no turbo lag. its deffinetly the better buy. daveshapellSVT 04-12-2007, 10:21 PM heres some insight. the rsx-s is a great car. it's quality and refinement, not to mention it's quick, but once you factor in the costs it's really not worth it. most rsx-s run low 15's at the track. two buddy's of mine have them. my spec v ran 15.1 stock. my buddy had hondata, thort shifter, motor mounts, and a cai and he ran 14.6. my sentra, with the hotshot header, aem intake, balance shaft removal, and motor mount ran 14.59. i then got the jwt cams, underdrive pulley, and had stock exhaust. it was significantly faster. to me the two are close in performance stock for stock and moded, but my complaint is the cost and lack of low end torque from the acura. of coarse theres more aftermarket support out there for the rsx so if you have the money you can go further. 2of9 04-13-2007, 02:16 AM i like the Celica GT-S. i've seen some get into the low 14s with I/H/E/p-fc tuned daveshapellSVT 04-13-2007, 12:23 PM yea the celica is also a great quality car, but from what i heard doesn't it fall out of vtec after shifting into second. thats what i heard a while back. plus isn't the aftermarket pretty limitted? nismo_pilot 04-13-2007, 02:05 PM tq = 0 slideways... 04-13-2007, 08:21 PM 187 hp on a celica but less torque than an rsx. its a very good handling nimble car thats fun to drive. rsx is better but more expensive. spec V is a very good comprimise between a lot of different cars, and tons of fun to drive. if i had the money for any of the 3, and i had to buy one of the 3, it would be a tossup between an rsx, or a spec with some mods. i probably would end up getting the spec because of the cheaper cost. spend the difference in some nismo goodies. daveshapellSVT 04-14-2007, 01:56 AM yea if i had to do it over again i'd get another spec v and get more bolt ons.. so far the fastest bolt on spec v i've heard of ran 14.0, i'd wanna see if i could get into the 13's with just NA bolt on's. i bet with some sticky rubber i would be able to pull it off. 06chill 04-16-2007, 10:49 PM yea the rsx is fun purely for the fact that someone like me who likes to hear a motor rev out it sounds wicked but i just purchased an 06 ser specv and i was looking between that and the rsx and i think it doesnt compare. a lot of torq so it feels like your moving faster vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
