Sometimes if i put fuel in the car, it runs like crap after and wants to stall if setting off at lights. If i then park it up. next day it runs fine again.

Can anyone help and advise me of the problem.

Dave!

sounds like something in the tank, restricting the flow after fillup.

Thanks. Its OK if you floor it, but its starts playing up when you first set off or are driving slow and slightly depress the accelerater padel, Like a flat spot.

Fuel filter . . .

check to make sure the right side of the fuel tank hasn't been hit [ big dent ]...this isn't uncommon and the fuel pump/pick-up are right in the bottom of the tank there.

i could be mistaken, but i don't believe i recommended a fuel filter....did you have a look at the bottom of the fuel tank, before we go any further...jb.

Sorry, it was someone else that suggested it, but it was worth a try. I'll try anything and yes the tank is OK and not dented.

Thanks, Dave!

should have asked before is your car an E30 or E36 as being a 'euro' '91, it could be either i think....jb.

Hi, It is an E36, late '91

ok, well my next suggestion was to remove the rear seat bottom [pulls right out], remove the 4 covers from the cover plate on the right side of the car [right side sitting in it] and pull out the fuel pump/gauge sender unit to look at the pick-up screen. E30's are easy, E36' have a big round plastic 'nut' securing the unit to the tank. it's a little harder to get loose since the 'tangs' are short but if you use 2 big screwdrivers in an 'X' crossing each other at 180 degrees, leveragung against each other and the tip of each on a 'tang' you'll begin to turn it enough to remove it by hand [ hope that makes sense ]........dirt or something in the tank clogging the pick-up [though unusual] is all that comes to mind from your symptom description.

Hi again, I have looked under the seat and there is two covers, one on either side. I have had both pick ups out and they are in good condition.

I must add that the car is new running OK, but when you start from rest or ease of the ravvs and press pedal again, it has a severe flat spot.

look at the intake manifold and see if any of the pipes are disconnected or split,

then let's assume filling the tank is irrellevent and i agree with mechy1barry on checking for inake air leaks next...........hows the idle speed & quality ?
p.s. sorry for the responce delay...vacation !

Hi, All pipes are OK and in good condition. The car has an intermittent fault with idle speed, Sometimes OK but sometimes revvs up and down.
Main fault with the car is when setting off from stand still or accelorting from coasting.

I think you should buy a fuel pressure regulator, set it to about 60% of max pressure and see if you have anymore problems. If your car is old you might just have a malfunctioning fuel pump, i don't think they cost too much to replace, but hell my alternator cost 400$$ so who knows
